Extremely Detailed Documentary series on WW2 German Forces

    Hi All,

I discovered an extremely detailed documentary series specifically on German WW2 units.

Its called " German War Files " and I'm watching it for research purposes..

    19 Episode Guide:

    Guns_Of_The_Werhmacht
    Panzer_III_Medium_Tanks
    Tiger_Heavy_Tank_Panzer_VI
    Panzer_I_II_Light_Tanks
    Panzer_IV_Heavy_Tank
    Stugg_III_IV_Assault_Guns
    Panther_The_Panzer_V
    Panzer_Germanys_ultimate_war_machine
    Military_Vehicles_And_Half_Tracks
    Jet_Aircraft_V1_V2
    Hummel_Mobile_Heavy_Artillary_1
    Green_Devils_1942_1945
    Green_Devils_1933-1941
    German_Support_Aircraft_and_Gliders
    German_Night_Flyers
    Fighter_Aircraft-1939-1942
    Fighter_Aircraft_1942_1945
    Dive_Bombers_And_Combat_Aircraft
    Bombers_And_Bombing_Raids_1942_1945

To anyone interested in WW2 i highly suggest you watch this and add it to your collections...

There is absolutely no CGI or digital scenes, The whole documentary uses film footage and german army archival footage... Hence very little colour and almost entirely B&W.....

There is so much never before seen footage it will blow you away, real German army training films shown to recruits and a lot of footage showing tactics and tank training etc..

So far I have watched Guns_Of_The_Werhmacht which covers every big gun the germans used. From mortars and artillery all the way up to the huge rail guns Schwerer Gustav and dora...

also covered in detail are all german AT guns pak35, pak40 etc and the 88 etc... + Flak guns of all types.

Definitely worth watching and full of details and information .......

Also watched Military_Vehicles_And_Half_Tracks which covers the development and deployment of the entire SDKZF range of apc's and ifv's...... 222,223,234,251 etc..

It even covers the huge 12 ton halftracks used to tow the huge artillery.

    Regards,

    Mopar

PS: It is that good a documentary I though others would like to know about it and i felt obligated to share..

Can anyone suggest or recommend other good documentaries covering WW2...

Also of interest to those who like tanks is Tank Overhaul series on History channel or DVD...

    hi mopar,

thanks for sharing this one! i´m also very interested in good documentary, particularly those showing original footage.
Will try your recommendations later on.

another very good one is named 'The War' by ken burns. it´s about WW2 from the perspective of the US. 'The War' is very close to the soldiers who lived through WW2, showing the war as it was fought and telling the ground thruth about what it means to be in war. it tells a lot of unique stories of men who survived the war and includes lots´n lots of original footage partly in color and never seen before.

I can absolutely recommend this for getting new ideas for maps and scenarios and just for those who are interested in WW2.

Here´s the link with more details

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_%282007_film%29

...as i have just seen on the wiki page there are only 7 parts mentioned, the whole documentary consist of 14 parts.

Thanks for the info Mopar they look really interesting, always looking for something fresh, especially about the German forces.

There's only so many times you can watch repeats of WW2 documentaries on the History/Military channel lol

    Thanks Mopar.
I´ve got two of the episodes on VHS stoved away somewhere. I think they covered self propelled artillery and halftracks/armoured cars.
I´ve searched for other episodes but since I did´nt remember the name of the series I could´nt find anything useful.
Now 15 seconds of searching on youtube gave me all of the episodes

My girlfriend is´nt too happy tough...

I just found these recently and wanted to add them to this post.

Unpublished German photographs of the war in Russia.

    http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...E&feature=plcp

They put real faces and scenes to the Men of War.

They are photos in a You Tube video format.

    There are 10 videos.

    Hi All,

While browsing the internet i found an interesting web site with many detailed pics on ww2 vehicles.
The panzer 1 ( top photo ) has some very detailed pics and information for those interested in ww2 vehicles.

Vehicle skinners and modders might also find this site useful as a reference due to the high quality photos...

They have a good vehicle model section showing plastic models of many ww2 vehicles and battle scenes also..
( be careful thought, i viewed the models section and then felt compelled to buy some german tank models to build )

I'm building a Pz.Kpfw VI Tiger Ausf.E (Sd.kfz 181 ) at the moment, Its been a while since I build models and I had forgotten how rewarding the building and painting process can be.

Another Good Documentary Series on WW2 Tanks

    Hi All,

At the risk of sounding like a smart arse, I have found another great doco series about WW2 tanks...

    Killer Tanks Epsiode Guide:

    KV Series
    T34
    Churchill
    Cromwell
    Grant
    Sherman

What interested me the most was the KV series - there are very few doco's that cover
the KV's in any great detail....

I hope others find this useful also.....

PS: Greatest Military Clashes is also worth trying to find as it covers specific ww2 tank engagements.. I am sure youtube should have some footage......
