most likely corresponding file under is2 wasnt properly updated/added along with new 3d model added in patch, hopefully this can be corrected fast if in fact it is bugged but it seems number of people confirmed. And yea I guess in ranked games this can definitely be put to use.

I also can confirm that. Its horribly bugged.I think its related to the different 3d model that was secretly introduced 2 patches before. The IS-122 was replaced with an IS-2 obr.1944, that means not 120mm at 60° at the front at drivers hatch it means 120mm at 30° at the whole front.Add the fact that the turret was bugged before and never felt like to explode, its likely that the new hitbox model plus 3d model is bugged.

Even if the turret got fixed the IS-2 would still need a price increase or reduced armor values on the hull. before patch the IS-2 was a superb 1500 point tank, but still it could be knocked out since its hull was different from the current version. It had a flat surface in the upper hull that could be penetrated with about 135mm penetration, same with a spot on the lower hull.
Now the upper hull is completly sloped and it require insane amounts to penetrate. 200+. In my test even a Chi-Ri at point blank with 200 mm APCR always deflected.
And the so called "weakspot" in the lower hull that the IS-2 used to have now requires about 150mm in penetration.
Thats more then the entire hull armor of a Pershing.

It has new weak spots now, like the turret ring which doesn't take much more than 100 penetration to go through. Either way I find myself indifferent toward the issue of price change at this point. Haven't faced an IS2 used by anyone other than a complete idiot.

i tested it a few minutes ago and took a look into the .mdl and .def file of the new is2 and there is only a small amount of code missing so that all the parts of the turret are correctly marked as parts of the turret, aftr doing that it works fine for me

After a little bit of testing (a few rounds from an SU-100) it was knocked out on the third hit to the lower hull with 139mm
Hull Damaged
The turret took about 4 (what looked like) penetrating hits without damage
The killing shot looked like it bounced off the bottom of the gun mantlet and in under the turret Hull Destroyed, so what you said about the turret ring looks accurate
Obviously needs more extensive testing, maybe a smaller calibre shell would have more difficulty

The only weakspot i have noticed is the part on each side of the frontal hull, close to the turret.
But they are quite small compared to the old IS-2s weakspots and you need to fire at it slightly from the side to get really good penetation. Frontally it still needs about 150mm penetration. Which is still more then the entire Pershing frontal armor and 50% more then Chi-Ris entire frontal armor.
Btw there was nothing wrong with the old IS-2. I thought it was well balanced, it was a solid counter to the Tiger and Panther. But it could still be defeated, now its gonna be way harder for any Panther to challange it. Or basically anything close or equal to its price will have major problems, even if the turret gets fixed.
I checked out the old IS-2 on my laptop, around 120 mm was needed to penetrate lower and upper hull.
Now lower 145. The rest 200mm+.
That is a pretty big differance.Last edited by Evilsausage; 11-12-2011 at 17:21.
