Men of War: Developers update 13

Hello everyone!
We are glad to tell you that the weekly devupdates at friday are back! If this wouldn't be nice enough we announce that Japan will be in the game as a new multiplayer nation!
Propably you expected that from our previous released screenshot. To avoid disappointings or misunderstandings, Japan won't have an own campaign in the release version of the game. This decision was made, because of the players wishes for a new multiplayer nation with the name Japan, but singleplayer campaign voting was for other scenarios which needed a lot of new foliage too, so we couldn't do 2 new singleplayer scenarios. In the end we decided to give you the multiplayer nation you wished and the singleplayer scenario you wished!
Allright, so here comes the first 2 Japanese tanks we want to introduce!
Type 3 Chi-Nu
Chi-Nu was developed in 1944 in order to cope with the M4 Sherman. Its hull is the same as of Chi-He tank and its gun was converted from 75mm Type 90 field gun. Chi-Nu was deployed in Japan to prevent expected Allied invasion.
Armor: 50-8mm

Type 97 Chi-Ha Shinhoto
In order to improve the anti-tank capability of the Chi-Ha tank, a new turret mounting a high-velocity 47mm gun was loaded on the Chi-Ha chassis. "Shinhoto" means "new turret" in Japanese and is named according to the new turret design which was necessary for the new gun. Its first service in action was at Corregidor Island of the Philippines in 1942.
Armor: 25-8mm

Re: Outfront 2: Developers update 13
W00t! Devupdates!!!
Cute little tanks... But, in my opinion, 50 mm of armour wouldnt stand against a Sherman. Let alone Firefly, Panther, T34...
Did you find any good means for Japs to take on the big bad tanks with gun surpassing 88 mm?
Too bad you wont do more exotic foliage
... I want to make some exotic maps... Bamboo bush and palm are only entities which can be used...
Would truly be nice to expand that part. But, on the other hand, i like that new tree and yellow grass.
Is that a Stuart column in the back of the last screenie? I was wondering if you will make that one, since it shared the turret with M8 Scott (the later versions).
And, finally - have you decided which nation will be for SP?
A plea: Pleeeeease remake the M2 Browning and M1919... the ones in Fow/Beta are sooo... ugh... There is an elegant solution for M2 - take the one from the Maxson Gun mount - that one looks pretty good, just needs a propper clip. M1919 from Beta has a waaay too thick barrel.
Phew, another idea burst

Re: Outfront 2: Developers update 13
I knew something was going on since we didn't see any news for a little while!
Devupdates every friday, yey!
Japanese tanks, sweet! Can't wait to assult someone in an mp game with those! :insane: Btw: Are those trees new?
I wonder when you will bring us some news on the wished scenario, which maybe is North africa (with italian units?)? :insane:
Very futuristic question; Will you make more expansions or sequels maybe?
Already looking forward to next devupdate!

Re: Outfront 2: Developers update 13
Hi guys,
I've been browsing the net a bit and found quite a number of interesting designs from the Imperial Japanese Army.
Chi-To - Japanese Panther

This tank was developed with the aid of German engineers, in attempt to make a cheaper version of Panther.
Thats why it has the gun, 75 mm Type 5, very similar in characteristic to Panther, and what is even better - it is faster than Panther!
Unfortunately, it has the maximum armour of 75 mm. Only 2 were completed, with other 4 being in various stages of production at the end of the war.
Chi-Ri - Japanese Tiger

Last finished Japanese project. It has similar characteristics like Chi-To, but with the addition of a frontal 37mm gun. It was supposed to come in 3 flavours. With Japanese 75mm Type 5, German 88mm KwK36 from Tiger 1, and German 88mm KwK43, from Tiger 2. Tiger 2-like version should have had a drastically improved armour, up to 120-140 mm front/turret (unconfirmed source), but with the loss of the frontal 37mm.
And - O-I, superheavy tank.
The O-I had three-turrets and weighed 120 tons. Its dimensions were 10 meters by 4.2 meters by 4 meters high. The armor was 200mm (MAX). The tank had a top speed of 25km/h. This version had a two gasoline engines developing 550 PS/1500 rpm. The O-I had 1 x 105mm Cannon, 1 x Type 1 37mm (in a forward mounted sub turret), and 3 x Type 97 7.7mm (one mounted in a forward sub turret) where as the Experimental version also mounted a Type 1 37mm in a rear facing sub turret. It has been reported the one copy of the O-I was manufactured before the end of the war and was shipped to Manchuria according to a engineer concerned with the project. Crew: 11. No known photo exists. A Ultraheavy version was in the works near to the end of the war. It had 4 turrets.
With the addition of Ho-Ri's, they make up a pretty neat tankforce.
It should also be noted that the Japanese artillery SPGs and guntanks were issued quantities of HEAT shells, for the purpose of fighting enemy tanks, and in most situations, only vehicles capable of coping with Shermans.
So, i believe that introduction of new types of ammo would tip the scale of ballance the right way. It would be good if the HEAT shells would be given some real performances - very slow velocity and inaccuracy, arced path, penetration equal to calibre (75 mm shell would penetrate roughly 75 mm of armour - 120 mm shell would pretty much devastate any armored vehicle), and shorter range (about 70% of the guns range).
Just my $ 0,02-,

Re: Outfront 2: Developers update 13
My vote for the new SP nation goes to Italy, cause after all, if you do check the files (the ones that arent crypted) within the Outfront 2 beta package, you´ll see many references to Italian vehicles, like unit_icons and sound files...
