    Coop Zombie Horror Survival

I was thinking about making a mod/map of some sort of coop zombie survival.

Basically you start in a town alone that has been abandoned for a reason. And there is a reason you are alone there (maybe you are a prisoner and finally managed to dug your tunnel, or a patient at the hospital that woke up, you know).
You have to gather ammo, food, find shelter and so on. You got your 3 Coop-Buddies to work together and so on. The clue is that you will always die, because the number of zombies that come from outside the map towards the town increases. There should be a day-night cycle and the zombies spawn from outside just at night. At day, you are relatively safe with a few zombies stumbling around.

It counts the days you survive and thats the goal, survive as long as you can. There should be some vehicles around. A gas-station for fuel, a gunshop with a freak that has some armed vehicle-ammo in his back etc. There should be a dump where you can find barrels for easier fuel transportation or you need to take the small cans from the gasstation.

I havent tried scripting yet in GEM, neither have I tryed mapmaking, but after seeing the GEM2-videos, this sure came to my mind. I am sorta lazy with these kinda things but zombie survival in a town from the top down has also been a dream of mine. Looking forward to the realism of Outfront 2, this is becoming a serious issue Maybe there are some people who also had some ideas about that or already did something similar, I dont know.

I will start mapping maybe, since I heared that GEM and GEM2 are compatible. Scripting however will be later. I dont like that much, because it is also what I do at work and dont want to do in my spare time.

Any ideas? Any mods that are already something like this? Help? Suggestions?

not a bad idea for a mod, but.... maybe the GEM Engine is just not the one appropriate for such a mod...

Sounds kind of fun! You'll have to do some updated graphics unless you want 1940's zombie survival horror :P

GEM really supports foraging for little bits and pieces of inventory, gasoline, and the odd vehicle so that's helpful. Making a day-night cycle that gives you the appropriate mood will be tricky, I think, but I bet it can be done.

    It can be done.

I am sure more zombies at night is very possible.

    Set a trigger that sees
    10 zombies - enviroment mp_port
50 zombies - enviroment: aero_ moon
    Enviroment changes after xx:xx time.

Could be a small army base there as well.

I'll see what can be done.

Love to see such a mod happen , but one problem that stops anyone from making a decent zombie mod is :

The enemy unit ai is probaly gunna be searching for cover, so you'll have to get rid of all that ai stuff, but that shouldn't be too hard I geuss never tryed.

The melee system sucks, all you'd need to do is run about in direct controll mode and u'd evade them all, tho with loads of zombies, maybe this wouldnt be a problem.

I hope this comes in a release state!

For now, you can use the "Soldier burn" skin as a zombie skin?
    Enough I guess?
I dunno really how, but you can make the zombies coming for !YOU! and your teammates, so they don't just stand around, or make Waypoints so they go around in the map, but if the map is big, that may be a problem :/

    Re: Coop Zombie Horror Survival

Is there some sort of patch or workaround for those many Application terminated-issues? I just got one on an undo-function. Man if that keeps on, I think I will wait for GEM2 and hope that it can handle my experimenting

I think I will do a mod with ww2-equipment. Not much zombie games in WW2 yet.

Giving the zombies weapons is not in my mind. They should be slow and they should be in big numbers, so you can run, you can hide, but when you get into the middle of them, hopefully you found enough ammo.

The texturesystem of the editor confuses me. I managed to draw a sandy river with steep stony hills and then a flat grass top and a church on top of it. Still it is confusing to create every combination manually. Also is there a way to let 3 different textures touch each other? Doesnt seem to be possible.

Any tutorials maybe? Ah. And a quick key for saving. I need that. Damn crashes.

    Re: Coop Zombie Horror Survival

Tried this idea a long time back, couldn't get the ai to function properly, trying again but still can't get the AI to function properly. The main problem is pretty much can't get the attack functions (melee, ground, or normal) to work, so pretty much stuck with advance. Problem with advance is the AI'll kick in and when facing a things, the ai would go into a kneel or prone position as if they had a weapon, and would only melee if a person aproached at close range. There is the occasional guy that'll rush forward if you have a large enough group. Was somewhat hoping some modder had been at work since then but no luck apparently. Guess I'll see what I can get messing around with the other files.

    Re: Coop Zombie Horror Survival

Do want. Basically, the AI zombies could just be unarmed and use the melee attack until there are proper animations.
EDIT: Wait, i don't think you can attack when you're unarmed, so maybe make an invisible 'Zombie fist' gun which holds no rounds, so they are forced to use the melee attack?
