Packaging a Mission/Mod for Upload - Tutorial
Hi guys,
I thought this may be useful for newcomers wanting to upload their own missions/mods to share with us all. I posted the bulk of this tutorial as an answer to someone's question over on a different sub-forum. I thought, really, it belongs here, and maybe if we can make this a sticky (Dilust? Instinct?) that would be a help.
Anyway, it's a tutorial on how to package a mission/mod for upload so it can be shared. A video tutorial is also available.
1) You need to get your map from C:\[username]\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\505games\1C\Men of War\resource\map first. If you have any mission objectives or text spoken by soldiers, you will find them (.lng file) in the localization folder in the Men of War folder above.
2) Then, you go to your desktop, and make a folder with the name of the Mission - e.g. My Mission.
3) Inside that, you need to make a mod.info file. Open Notepad, and copypaste the following into it:
{mod
{name "My Mission"}
{desc "You can write whatever you want here - it's just a description"}
}
Note: change My Mission to the actual name of your folder - it must be the same. Save this file as 'All types' (NOT .txt) and filename should be mod.info.
4) Then, in the same folder, make a resource folder and a localization folder (Screenshot).
5) In the resource folder, make the following folders: map>single>[name of your mission] and place your map/mission folder in there (Screenshot).
6) In the localization folder, make mission>single>[name of your mission], and place the .lng file in there (Screenshot).
This is the basics for a single mission. If you have any extra entities, sounds, textures, etc., that's a little more advanced. You can just open up any downloaded mission to see where they go - in the screenshots I have used Sanglier Bossu's 'Cross of Iron' mod, and I would recommend looking through there to see where extras should go.
Also, I have prepared a mod structure - the folders in the right order - if you want to download from here. Just put your map/mission and .lng files in it, and you are ready to distribute!
There is a video tutorial available here.
Hope this helps.

Re: Packaging a Mission/Mod for Upload - Tutorial
Just a a little note here. this guide seems to be for non-hard copy users.
Otherwise, nice work.

Cheers!
What do you mean by 'non-hard copy users'? I will fix this tutorial if I can.

Only Instinct may create stick topics. And I belive that this guide deserve this kind of attention. Good work.

Re: Packaging a Mission/Mod for Upload - Tutorial
Nice guide.
One thing, though: I suggest not naming the folder "4" but something else - doesnt matter what, but no number.
Because if you name it "4" it is locked with the standard MoW campaigns if you havent completed the first Russian mission. If you name it something else, it isn't.

Good point! Except that I doubt anyone who hasn't completed the first Soviet mission will be making their own mods. Anwyay, adding that now. I welcome more suggestions to improve this thread, too, so......
