'Humanskins' - What are they for?
What are the 'humanskins' used for? When I open GEM and I'm doing my stuff, I see these, but I have never used them - simply because I don't know what they are for. Can anyone explain? Also, could anyone give an example?

They are what the name says, the skins on the infintry models, they dont do anything in the editor but stnad there, and its as if they arent there as bullets and such go right through. all human skins can be used as a actual figure though

Re: 'Humanskins' - What are they for?
But we have 'texmods'.... And if these 'humanskins' really are just the skins for the human models, how come we don't have 'vehicleskins' and 'constructionskins' and so on?

Re: 'Humanskins' - What are they for?
They are the 3d polygonal model of each soldier in the game. Every humanskin has an own skin, that is the 2d surface applyed to the 3d model.
When you would create a new soldiers you must copy an existing humanskin and overwork the skin. In this way you have the same 3d model of the human, but with a different skin, and a different name.
So humanskins are not simply a skin, they are a 3d model plus a skin.By prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may unfailingly arrive at his chosen goal of destination. Cristoforo Colombo

Re: 'Humanskins' - What are they for?
I see. This is starting to make sense. I was reading Ulrek's post about skinning soldiers and it talked about using the humanskin and not the actual soldier texmod skins (<- this is what I have been doing up until now). Suddenly everything became confusing. Thanks, you have cleared one of many grey areas up for me......now for the rest...... :x

You know there was a notice in that post saying to feel free to ask questions in that thread to help improve the guide. *Hint Hint*

True....true....but I had a choice of either resurrecting a very old post or making a new thread. I've been told off for doing both before, so it's hard to know what to do, to be honest. But, since you're here, I'd like to ask what you meant by 'attaching' the humanskin to a soldier.
.....
What do you mean by 'auto play', SpeedWolf?

Re: 'Humanskins' - What are they for?
On the list of settings you get when selecting a soldier. you can go down to where it lists it breed and skin. at the very end of the list. scroll down untill you see it. than open the skins list. and you can swap the soldiers texture for anyone in the game, without making it swap breeds. or otherwise change stats. its how the soldiers in civilian cloths and in german uniforms were made for the mission "The Trap". the map maker just changed the skins without changing the breed. they're still US SMGers. just with a different skin.

Re: 'Humanskins' - What are they for?
Oohh, right, that's actually pretty useful. Cheers
It also explains why there are only humanskins and not others: you can't disguise a Tiger as a jeep, for example
