AI tweak: units should stay in cover
I don't know whether you also want to tweak the AI or not, but if you are I think you should really tweak this a bit:
when I have a whole squad in cover with lets say one rocketlauncher, one smg and 6 riflemen and enemies are a bit further away only the riflemen can shoot, because it's only in their range.
However, when the squad gets pinned down eg. by a mashine gun I often want them to all shoot at the mg at once (all that are in range, at least
), so they take it out.
And here's the thing that made me loose so many soldiers: if I order the whole squad to do that, the SMG will get OUT OF COVER and attack the mg... well, usually it doesnt even get so far - thats even worse for rocketlaunchers, they will usually get a grenade and CHARGE THE MG...
I would like it to be like it currently is when the enemy is blocked but in range:
when there is eg a house between the units and the enemy and you click once, your units will not shoot, but not get to a position to shoot either... but if the enemy is out of range and you click once, your units will go out of cover.
Can't this be changed so if it's out of range they simply (just like when the enemy is blocked) wait for the enemy to come? If you want to get your smgs and all closer, you can simply do that by hand, thats my opinion!

Re: AI tweak: units should stay in cover
What is the movement stance of your soldiers?
"Hold position" or "move at will"?

Re: AI tweak: units should stay in cover
I always have them at "Hold position" so sorry if setting to "Move at will" makes a difference, never got to try it out

It doesnt...this would be nice but it could be annoying too, more micromaniging, not that thats bad but some people dont like MOW as much becasue of this.
but maybe have a new buttons for "rifle fire" or "SMG fire" type of thing, like they have the rocket launcher one now. That may help someLiber De Oppresso & Ultima Ratio Regnum

Re: AI tweak: units should stay in cover
Double click = do whatever you need to get shots in
Single click = stay where you are but shoot at target if you can

Re: AI tweak: units should stay in cover
I think single clicking should stay unchanged. If people give an attack order by one click, it should keep the units attacking like they are now.
Shift or Ctrl+single click could get the desired function of the unit not moving, but targeting its enemy and attacking it once it is in range. This could be useful for every unit, like tanks, so they do not move away from their position.
Or maybe even a whole new button for it, attack without moving. This could be an addition to attack, attack ground, supressing fire. You only live once.

Re: AI tweak: units should stay in cover
That actually would be a nice and easy idea. Especially as this use of the shift key is already done for similar uses in Hack and Slash RPGs to attack enemy with a ranged weapon without moving from your position.Shift or Ctrl+single click could get the desired function of the unit not moving, but targeting its enemy and attacking it once it is in range. This could be useful for every unit, like tanks, so they do not move away from their position.
