Re: MP Beta Demo Announcement + FAQ/Guide
1. In the next days.
2. We will write more detailled about this later.
4. Yes those sounds will be in the demo aswell.
3. This effect decreases the more weaker guns shoot at a tank. A tank can't simply stand forever into enemies fire, kinetic energy, especially those of larger calibres will destroy weak parts of a tank, which will knock them out, or simply burst up the steel and break it, without penetrating it really. IS-2 mostly didn't knock out Tiger tanks by penetrating them, but their enormous kinetic energy of their 122mm shell deformed the steel plates or wrecked the turret completely. We looked at many pictures of knocked out tanks and not a small amount of them broke down by too many hits or bursted up. Even small calibres will not do good when they hit an armor plate of a kingtiger i.e., ofcourse it won't knock it out with a few shots.
Test shooting on a Kingtiger by Soviets
http://armor.kiev.ua/Tanks/WWII/PzVIB/PzVIB_6.jpg
Physically seen an armor plate can not absorb the whole energy of a sheel by reflecting it, each shell will cause deformations and structural loss of the whole armore plate since microcracks will turn up everywhere on the plate and it will further expanse the chance to break down the tank and fully crack up the armor, but not to penetrate it, that's true.
But visually the game doesn't devide into breaking up a tank or penetrating a tank.
The Tiger tank fible in German also describes the combat range of the Tiger, although at some distance its not able to penetrate a tank it can very well knock it out, by exactly this effect or by the absorbing of the armor plate to weaker parts such as gears, welding joints."If men would consider not so much where they differ, as wherein they agree, there would be far less of uncharitableness and angry feeling in the world" -Joseph Addison

Re: MP Beta Demo Announcement + FAQ/Guide
OK, the demo looks great but this talk about armor penetration... What was wrong with the original SHOWW2 one? Haven´t seen the new one yet, but for now, the SHOWW2 system is still my favorite one. Just one thing though, to let the player be able to see how thick armor a enemy tank has, in my view that is a drawback --- how can a tank gunner know beforehand how thick armor a enemy tank has for example in the front?

And back to real life armor penetration: Some Soviet KV2´s were hit more than 122 times from different calibres before being knocked out by a lucky hit, so it is quite possible for a heavily armed beast to be taken out by hits that has weakened its armor, but not as quick as it happens in the original FOW. Come one, I´ve had Tiger I´s being knocked out by a 37mm AT gun after three hits in the frontal armor. A Tiger I was taken out by a US 37mm M6 gun mounted in the turret of an M8 Greyhound, but this was from the rear at point blank range and it is only recorded to have happened once.
But if I ain´t mistaken, the photo that Instinct links to, is taken after the war and the ammunition used to blow it apart, were not the same as the Soviets used during the war. After all, when the Soviets fired modern ammunition at the front of a Panther, it went straight thru the frontal armor and left the tank thru the rear armor plate... That says something about the evolution of tank ammo...
