Frequently asked questions
Where should I install the mod?
You have to create a "mods" folder in your main Men of War directory.
After that, unzip and copy/paste the contents of the DCG packs so the final path becomes:
"(Men of War main directory)/mods/Campaign/"
You also have to activate the mod in the in-game options menu.
The campaign.exe crashes when I start!
Most likely, you haven't installed the required additional programs you need to run DCG.
Do I need any extra programs to run this mod?
Yes, you need to install the following:
Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 Redistributable Package
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
OR
If you have a 64 bit version of Windows:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
AND
Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.0
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
AND
Microsoft Visual J#® 2.0 Redistributable Package – Second Edition
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
OR
If you have a 64 bit version of Windows:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en
How do I install DCG when using Windows 7?
1) make sure Men of War is not installed in C:\Program Files\
-or-
2) consult the readme.txt file for details about installing on Windows 7 (and Windows Vista)
Nothing happens when I save the game!
Most likely due to one of the following reasons:
a) You have defined your save path wrong. (You can change it in the DCG interface in "Settings", or manually in the "settings.xml" file)
b) You saved the game under a name not defined in the save path.
(You have to use exactly the same name for your save, otherwise it won't work)
c) You don't have campaign.exe running while saving the game.
d) You are using a player profile not specified in the DCG settings.
If this doesn't help you, please take another look at the readme.txt file included with the download.
(or the next post in this thread)
[Insert crash/error loading minimaps/black screen/other error]
a) Make sure you have installed all required extra programs
b) Make sure you have extracted the maps (either through the DCG interface or manually)
c) Make sure you are running as Administrator (Vista)
d) Make sure you haven't altered any files/maps/campaigns
e) Make sure you aren't running any other mods than the official ones.
(DCG, Map Pack, Vehicle Pack, Infantry Pack)
f) See if your error has been described elsewhere in this post
How do I submit a bug report?
Please try to be as specific as possible. Try to describe when and how it happened.
Also, the "log.txt" from the /mods/campaign folder,
the "game.log" from the /.../my games/men of war/log/game.log,
the contents of your "settings.xml" (same folder as log.txt), and perhaps a screenshot
will probably help us a lot.
How do I take a screenshot?
Press "Print Screen" on your keyboard
You will find your screenshots near your log/saves/profiles. (/.../my games/men of war/screenshots/ )
How do I win a battle?
Either kill every single enemy unit on the map, or hold the defined objectives for a certain amount of time.
You might have to clear the objectives from enemies before the timer starts ticking, and you also have to hold
all of them at the same time. Pressing "O" brings up the objectives window.
What are those uncontrollable troops running around, that show up green on the minimap?
Those are AI troops on the same side as you.
You can order AI troops on the main operation map to attack the same area as you, and
that will increase the chance of them showing up in the battle.
I don't have any icons on the sidebar, and my vehicles are behaving strangely/infantry are almost immortal!
Unchecking the "Fuel/ammo consumption" button in the DCG settings will cause this.
Solution right now: Don't play with fuel/ammo consumption disabled.
Why do my tank crew/units I stuffed into a vehicle between two battles seem almost invincible?
This is due to them being designated as AI units.
Solution right now: Avoid stuffing infantry into vehicles between battles.
Why do I have a single tank crew member spawning in the middle of the map?
This is due to an error in the vehicle files.
Please write down which vehicle that caused this to happen, and submit it in the bug report thread.
My soldier doesn't have a name/rank/title! (it shows .../desc/lang...above the portrait)
This is probably due to a typo in one of the 1000+ soldier files.
Please report this in the bug report thread, and please try to give as much information as possible:
Examples: Nation, paratrooper, machinegunner, division etc.
How can I control more units than three?
(Zeke Wolff)
"You earn a new unit to command when and if you manages to capture the enemy "base" map, which is marked with a black and white circle (this is what we mean when we say "Completed a whole operation")."
Also, with version 2.2, some operations might require you to kill every single enemy division/unit on the main operation map.
If you feel brave, you can have a go at modifying the settings.xml file: (but backup the file, and don't come crying if something gets messed up
)
What does the values in the settings.xml file mean?
<unitsbasemin>3</unitsbasemin> = The number of units you can control at the start of your first operation.
Also, the base number of enemy AI units.
<unitsbasemax>7</unitsbasemax> = The maximum number of units, after you have won a number of operations. (4 in this case)
<unitsrandomcomputerbonus> = Simply adds random amount of AI units from zero up to this number to standard random amount
<unitsmaxcomputertrendbonus> = Add random amount of extra computer units when player is winning (this setting is the max - it starts at zero and increases by one for each battle the player wins up to this setting)
<unitsreservecomputerbonus> = Adds random amount of AI units from zero up to this number as reserve forces which don't engage unless the player is winning the battle
How do I get more points to buy troops?
*Win a battle. Fixed amount, plus a possible bonus written as a number on the main operation map.
*Capture and disband enemy vehicles - Cheap ones doesn't work though, at least a value of 40-50pts is needed.
*Destroy enemy vehicles (new in version 2.2)
I captured [insert vehicle/cannon here] but it didn't carry over to the next mission!
Entities linked to the map doesn't carry over, only vehicles and cannons used by the AI does.
I lost my vehicle between two missions!
Most likely due to it being damaged when you pressed the "save" button.
The following reasons will cause the vehicle to be abandoned:
(Zeke Wolff
a) broken tracks
b) missing wheels (non repairable)
c) broken and unrepairable hulls (ie dark grey colored)
d) damaged hull (ie red colored)
e) damaged engines
f) abandoned vehicles (not entirely true, sometimes these gets transfered anyway)
My infantry squad is ungrouped/disassembled after the battle!
(Zeke Wolff)
"This happens when you have picked any single soldier in your squad and sent him out alone, either by mistake or by your own choice. Use the option "Add empty squad" (in the buy menu) and then drag and drop each one of the single soldiers into this new squad and the squad will be intact again in the next mission, and it will be intact until the next time you sends out a single soldier. "
How do I refill fuel/ammo
The button is called "Reset Selected to Default Loadout (Clears Inventories)"
But beware, "Clears Inventories" means that you will lose anything you've stuffed into that particular vehicle/soldier.
If you check the "View unit details" button, you can change camouflage for vehicles, and also refuel them. (up to 100 fuel)
Hint: Give anything important (fuel cans/repair kits etc) to one of the tank crew members.
How do I add new crewmen to vehicles/new squadmembers to squads? (new for version 2.2)
Right click on the vehicle squad, and pick your reinforcement from the drop-down menu.
You will usually have to pay a small "fee" to reinforce though, and it often is a better idea to buy whole squads.
Also, infantry reinforcements available are usually raw recruits unlike most of the "proper" full squads.
What happens when I complete an operation?
If you complete a full operation = Destroy every single AI units/capture every single map/capture the main enemy base with a black and white circle;
you'll get a bunch of extra points, the ability to field one more unit, and the choice of a new theatre of war/operation.
Important: It will appear very similar to starting a new campaign in the DCG interface
How come the AI acts stupid sometimes?
First of all, MoW only supports scripted single-player missions and multiplayer, so everything AI-like is Jason's creation.
Or, as Zeke expressed it:
(Zeke Wolff)
"The reason for enemy AI behaving stupid etc, is that the enemy force is totally randomized. When spawned they do get orders to get to point B from point A, thats all. No real path scripting is done. The SP campaign in the game cant be compared since everything is scripted in the campaigns. We can´t do the same thing, since DCG mission is fully randomized each time. AI troops that stand still, are belonging to the 2nd wave. These troops starts to move against the objectives when and if you (the player) captures your target objectives. In later beta versions (not being published so far) these troops will also start to
react when you get too close to them."
Why isn't [Insert vehicle/squad here] available to buy - it says "0 available"?
Thats because every vehicle or squad shouldn't be available all the time... this is a way to simulate
some troops or vehicles being more rare than others... try looking for it again after the next battle.
Be advised though, that some vehicles or squads might be very, very rare.
Why doesn't [Insert vehicle/squad here] show up in the buy menu?
You might be playing during the wrong year, or the wrong theatre of war.
Some vehicles weren't produced until very late in the war, some went out of production and were taken out of combat.
Also, some only saw action in specific theatres of war.
And finally, some units you are used to seeing in MoW weren't used at all during WW2 and have been removed from DCG.
Why doesn't the operation I want to play show up in the operations list?
Make sure you have chosen the correct theatre of war, nation and date.
Every single custom operation is area/nation/time specific.
When is the next patch coming?"A patch is never late, nor is it early, it arrives precisely when it means to" :grandpa:
Can I make a submod for DCG?
Sure you can! (and it will be much appreciated too)
Just remember that the usual rules for modding apply (credits/permission etc),
and that you have to take responsibility for supporting it yourself.
Please make sure though, that you let people know that it isn't an "official" part of DCG, because we in the
modding team have enough of a workload already; modding, betatesting and supporting the official DCG packs: supporting user-made submods shouldn't (and won't) be our responsibility.
Korean War [Insert complaint here]
That theatre of war neither is completed nor fully supported yet.
How can I contribute to the DCG mod?
Finding new bugs, and making proper bug reports is one good thing.
Sharing maps (which don't have to be scripted) is another good thing.
Creating operations and uploading them is a third good thing.
Feedback and suggestions is always welcome!
This is what I could compile from going through 82 pages of the main DCG thread, please PM me suggestions (or write in this thread) for more frequently asked questions (or any mistakes I made
)
Also, some parts could definitely be clearer or better explained... suggestions are most welcome!
