    Changing a .ply skin

    Hi,

    Is it possible to change which material file a .ply file uses?

    I´m trying to make a new vehicle (the Sd.Kfz. 251/23) by combining the turret from the sd.kfz. 222 to a sd.kfz. 251 body. No problem there, but the 222 turret and the 251 body uses the same material file, so I can´t get the right skin to the turret. Currently the turret has the skin from the 251 body and has the look of the 251´s roadwheels. I´ve tried changing the (turret.ply) material file by using both plyfix and winhex and changing the material file from base.mtl to base1.mtl (the latter copied and renamed from the 222) but the only responce I gets, is "Invalid chunk" in turret.ply.

    I can´t draw a single line in a 3D program, so I´m only making new vehicles by adding bits and parts from other vehicles and thus far, I have made the 251/2 Mortar Carrier, /6 Command Halftrack, /8 Ambulance, /9 75mmL24, /16 Flame, /17 20mm FlAK38, /20 IR-Halftrack, /22 75mmL48 and now the /23 KwK38.

    Is there a simple way to make life easier or am I stuck?

    This sounds more like an errorous code in the .ply. Does it write anything in your facesofwar.log in your own files folder?
    Actually I didn't use this tools so I can't help out much.

    Re: Changing a .ply skin

    When checking my log, I found these lines:

    ***************** Exception *****************
    Invalid chunk in .PLY file! (emultimesh.cpp, 480)
    ------------------------------------------------------------------
    >> file "/entity/-vehicle/btr/sdkfz251_23/sdkfz251_23.def"
    > file "sdkfz251_23.mdl"

    157: {VolumeView "turret.ply"«}
    158: {bone "visor1"
    159: {Position 12.7813 0.0971214 23.4881}
    160: }
    161: {bone revolute "gun_rot"

    When I tries to use a unmodified "turret.ply" file, ie. not changing base.mtl to base1.mtl it works, but not the other way around. May I ask what tools you are using yourself?

    ~Zeke.

    We are using internal tools, but we can't open .plys, just write them.
