Re: Downloadable-Content
I added variant "boxed copy" to the poll.

Re: Downloadable-Content
I don't share your negative point of view.
Expansions don't automatically enhance the quality of a game or take care of customers. In many cases the opposite happens. A company can screw up expansions or DLCs. On the other hand both can be brilliant.

Quality control, testing can be done faster because of the smaller size.
You can streamline the overall content of the game. One package could be maps another one could be vehicles. You could also create content based on topics. Eastern Front 1941 for example.
The developer can fulfill more customer wishes because the development time is shorter.

Re: Downloadable-Content
I will definitly pay for a new downloadable content with new maps, new countries payable in multiplayer even if I would prefer a physical ad-one.

Re: Downloadable-Content
Changed my vote to boxed copy as well. It may be harder to set up a distribution, but it is a consistent way to expand the multiplayer community as well as the singleplayer one.

Re: Downloadable-Content
No downloadable content, becouse then the available multiplayer game number get smaller as everyone havent bougth the same contents and besides, what would that leave to modders if you add everything?

Voted for boxed expansion but not yet FFS, game has been out for couple of months!McCartney: "I've got to admit it's getting better, a little better, all the time."

@Rebs
This is just for a future product model for them.
Now I'm for DLC and Expansions, a few games nowadays that have expansions I've seen allow players with the expansions to still play with those that don't its just that person that doesn't have it cant use the content from the new expansion.Sturmtiger = Volkswagen of doom!

Re: Downloadable-Content
DLC is a no go imo..
IMHO the best expansion has been done for company of heroes by Relic. Whereby the expansion its self is a standalone game but you can mix and match armies and fight against people that haven't bought the expansion or as EA have done with Batlefield 2. (though Relic's way is better imho).
I play the elder scoll series (FPS/RPG) and Bestheda released DLC. I refused to pay for it.
My objection is that while DLC costs less (£5 vs £20 for an expansion) however I feel that DLC is just a way to squeeze customers dry without putting effort into a really worth while update/release. Personally I beleive that if you think that something should be DLC then it should be included in a patch for free and given to the customers as a reward for playing/buying the game. Otherwise boxed expansions are better and imo worth the money. DLC is just a scam that really has never, to my mind, been worth paying for. If you want to go down that route, give the whole game to customers for free and then charge a subscription to play it adding new content at regular intervals (think blizzard - WoW).
Another point to consider is what happens if you release a lot of DLC (say £100+ worth) and then the company goes under. How do i redownload my content if your servers are no longer there? I prefer physical media that I can backup or a dual system whereby I can have the physical media & download the content from the servers (covers me incase teh media gets damaged).
Please do not go down the road of DLC. Release fewer but bigger expansions.
just my £0.02

Re: Downloadable-Content
I'm surprised by these poll results, and especially the comments. It's 2009 people - get with it. Why are so many of you stuck on the idea of getting a box that you can hold in your sweaty little hands?
Seriously though, downloading is superior in a number of ways:
-It lowers the cost of production, which can in turn lower the cost to the customer.
-It is more easily accessible to the customer, i.e. you can download it the second it is released without having to wait for shipping or drive to pick it up.
-You don't have to worry about losing it. If you need to re-install it, just download it again. If you lose your key it can be sent to your E-Mail address.
-You never have to worry about having the CD/DVD to play the game.
I'm also amazed at the outrage against DLC in general - as if it is going to "ruin games". How can additional content for low prices ruin the industry? Sure, it can be done poorly - but so can everything else. I'd rather have a little new content every few months than wait a year for one larger expansion. Generally speaking DLC is half the price of a full expansion, so it is justifiably smaller in size. The days of purchasing expansions in stores are numbered. Time to move on :grandpa: .
In my opinion DLC is the future (and in many cases, the present) of distribution, so there is no need to discuss it further.
