Do we need a blacklist system?

This thread is started because it became an bit too off-topic subject in another thread.

    The subject/question here is:

Should a host have a system which automatically informs him when a previously misbehaving player joins his server?

Then it's up to that host to decide wheter to allow or disallow that player on his server. For good reasons it should NOT automatically kick that player.

This system can only work properly if every player is able to maintain a (private) blacklist.
Simply add a misbehaving player to your own blacklist and (if all works properly) a warning will popup when that same player joins your server. You can even think of displaying a particular reason why that player was added on the list.
Of course we can simply maintain a "notepad" list of players outside the game. But then of course no automatic ingame warning system.

Technically this should not be difficult to implement into the game. MoW already is able to maintain ranking information about every player, so it should possible to store the blacklist on that same database.
At first the system can work on basis of nicknames, but a player can start to use another nickname and then the system fails in that way. However a good reason for a player not to change his nickname is the ranking system, which will start at zero for every new nickname. Another approach can be that the system should work on ip-address basis. Thats abit more difficult, bacause a players ip-address can change over time due ISP reasons or so.

Anyway, I really think this blacklist system will make games much lesser prone to quitting, team killing, desktopping or other misbehaviour.

But maybe others are totally disagreeing this. So write down your opinion about this :booyah:

I like this idea as I stated in the other thread. It is not a necessity for the game, but it would make a good addition.

I'd love it... today I had a round and a fu...ing team killer started running over my Pak's... I went and killed his bastard Pz3 who he was driving and killed it in anger and then he blamed me... omg, so ***. A blacklist and some ability to ban people from your server or in general would be awesome

The problem with this, of course, is that unscrupulous players may simply make up stories about other players they dislike or lost badly to, to blacklist them. As soon as a blacklist is in place, people will default to kicking anyone on it. If you're one of those obnoxious people this is designed against, what's to stop you blacklisting everyone who annoys you, to stop them enjoying the game.

this would happen only with global blacklist, but simple local blacklist where each one can write in ppl with they don't like so they host without harassment would be perfect

Hmmm... there is the ranking system in the game witch will show you a player status, how many have he killed how many times fleed from a battle and so on , and then, sadly, we are not so many and we should just open a topic about players and what is our problem with them ...

Shiba wrote at developer update 35:
New features like friends and black lists are integrated, a new automatch system will be integrated soon. Optimizing in the AI code has been done, which increases the smoothness of online games.
This is very good news and i'm glad the MOW developers have recognized the need for features like a blacklist system also.
