Tiger I track guards?
I'm curious why the Tiger's track guards are randomized? Most of the time it doesn't have any track guards, sometimes on 1 side only, and sometimes on both sides.
Because I've never seen any pictures of Tigers without track guards unless they are very early models or being transported/undergoing maintenance.
Hardly important, but is there any reasoning behind this? I like the Tiger much better with track guards :PPlaying online as [EPIC]Nowotny

By track guards, are you referring to the protection plates for the tracks? Such as these, worn by a PzKpfw IV Ausf.H: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:PzIV ... 0a5s6s.jpg?

Re: Tiger I track guards?
Yes. I know that (at least I have never seen a Tiger I with sideskirts). That was why I was wondering.

Hmmm... may I ask you how many war photos of Tiger I´s and King Tigers you´ve studied? I´ve seen plenty of combat photos of these two particular tanks and some of them has been missing all track guards, some none, and some with a few missing track guards etc etc. Track guards are made from thin sheet metal and thus are easily bent by moving thru heavy bushes, hitting stones etc, and of course, from battle damage.

Tiger I´s never carried sideskirts of any kind. A few carried barbed wire on their sides (field modification by one or two units) as a protection against Russian infantry who were known to climb onboard German and place mines on them. A common equipment on early Tigers were the so called S-Mines, five anti-personell weapons carried on each corner of the tank and the fifth on one side, filled with bullets. These S-Mines could be fired from within the tank against infantry who tried to climb onboard to place mines.

That is no sideskirts, that is the ordinary trackguards that was carried on every single Tiger I when it left the factory. :P

Re: Tiger I track guards?
Hey,
Sorry for being a little bit offtopic but do the skirts in MoW actually protect a tank from hollowcharges (Or At-Rifles)? I test fired a bazooka-round and it penetrated both skirt and hull with the first shot
