    Poor performance in MP only?

    Hi,

    I own both, MoW and MoW:AS. The singleplayer missions of both games run fine, very fine. But when I try to play MP in Assault squad it's nearly unplayable due to extremely low fps.

    Example: Yesterday I played a match in AS and it was laggy as hell. There were only some infantry units on the field and maybe a few tanks. Later I played a match in the original MoW on the same map and had a huge tank battle. It was smooth all the time.

    Even stranger is the fact that the Skirmish mode of AS runs fine, even on LAN. But Skirmish on LAN is a bit more laggy than pure SP skirmish.

    Setting "Bandwidth" to "minimum" in the AS match settings seems to help a bit, but not too much.

    I think it's not a hardware related problem since SP with 100 of units runs fine and MP with a few units is nearly unplayable.

    The new patch didn't fix it.

    I got the Polish/English retail version activated on Steam.

    Cheers,

    faCe

    //Edit: It's even laggy when I start a match on LAN and there's only me on the map.

    //Edit2:

    The user "los_majklos" on this forum seems to have the same problem:

    http://forums.steampowered.com/forum...php?p=29527671

    //Edit3:

    I just started a LAN-Game all alone again and disabled "Fog of War" - et voila -> it's smooth!
    But why? And turning off Fog of War isn't even a temporary solution to my problem...

    Is there any way to make the devs know?

    Is there anything different in the graphics settings between your MOW and AS? I also had some problems and had to shuffle some things around, mainly reducing the texture filtering.

    My settings in MoW are a bit higher. Most is set to the same.

    Texture filtering is set to trilinear in both games because I don't need anisotropic filtering in RTS.

    Try the following:
    - lowering the view distance;
    - setting texture detail to high;
    - no shadows;
    - no bloom;
    - reduce the water settings;

    In MP, play 2v2 or 3v3 games with people with PING less than 200 and good PC performance first. If it is fine, you can try larger games. And avoid laggy maps like Town.

    That describes my current settings perfectly.
    Maybe it's a bug in the netcode or something.

    make sure the people you play with are not lagging(such as someone with 0 or 1 bars most of the time right at start of the game) or someone having more than 350ms ping etc...

    But I even have that issue when I start a match all alone on LAN... It's just laggy... and there are only like 2 infantry squads on the battlefield on normal maps, while all those Skirmishes work perfectly...

    I have seen some people having horrible performance drop when realistic fog of war is on vs when its off. Maybe in your case you are fine when you play skrimish with fog off but mp usually most people play with realistic fog on and that is causing ur problems. Try turning realistic fog off in mp play and then play same map with it on and compare try it for skirmish too,. If it is the fog then not sure what to tell u but uit maybe something specific in drivers 3d quality settings sometimes etc.... I knew a person who had huge performance difference with fog on and off but its special hardware cases or settings.

    Okay, I'll troubleshoot that further now and write back then.

    ====

    So now I tried around. First I wonder why there's no way to set Fog of War to "Simple" as we had it in MoW.

    Usually I have very smooth gameplay on "Caen Outskirts" (Germany, first mission). But when I activated Fog of War it got laggy as hell.

    So I believe I pinned down the bug or problem.
    But I still wonder why Fog of War won't kill my performance in MoW, but will in MoW:AS?
    Did DMS change anything in the code of it?

    Here are the settings I have in my Nvidia Control Panel set for MoW:AS:

    Anisotropic Filtering -> off
    Anti Aliasing Gamma Correction -> off
    Anti Aliasing Mode -> off
    Anti Aliasing Setting -> None
    Anti Aliasing Transparency -> off (global setting)
    CUDA GPU's -> All (Global) //I don't use 3D, so this won't change anything, will it?
    Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames -> 4 //I read it on this forum - it's supposed to be useful for MoW:AS
    Multi-display/Mixed-GPU Acceleration -> Single Display Performance Mode
    Texture Filtering - Anisotropic Sample Optimization -> off (global)
    Texture Filtering - Negative LOD bias -> allow (global)
    Texture Filtering - Quality -> Quality (global)
    Texture Filtering - Trilinear Optimization -> On (global)
    Threaded Optimization -> off
    Triple Buffering -> off
    Vertical Sync -> off

    I also force the CPU-Affinity to "High" and force the game to use four CPU-Cores.

    Is there anything out of place?
    Should I post my In-Game settings?
