Thread: Kv-85

19-06-2012 #11Nobody said anything about it because it was an useless unit. It wasn't underpowered but it was the answer to a question nobody asked. "What do I get if I want to kill a hypothetical tank that is too tough for a T-34/85, but for which an IS-1 is massive over kill?"No one really said it out loud but as far as I'm concerned it always was.

KW-85 should be a nice hero unit added with small 4-soldier squad for lets say 6 points...

I don't understand this change too as there was no thread about a underpowered KW-85 or the other versions (there were threads about bugged hulls etc.) and if a problem isn't mentioned it doesn't exist or isn't important enough.
The main problems with the KW-85 are already mentioned here: 1. Bugged hull (samething with the KV-1); 2. Increased armor with no historicall datas (I didn't found sources about it).
That the idea of balancing changes the penetration power of nearly equal guns is one thing (which is ok for me) but fictional armor changes are a completely different one. (As I said, i found no information about a ,for example, 100mm KW-85 front).

thus the KV-85 was based on a modified KV-1S Hull with lager Turret ring and the Turret from the IS1 , it had the same Amor Specs as its predecessor , 75mm Front Amor and 60mm on the Stepslope in the front were usually used, no Amor Alliance as on the original KV-1E was ever mentioned in any source i looked into.
but maybe there was something similliar avaiable.Last edited by Blub0r2k; 19-06-2012 at 19:19.

Normaly you would take the armor specifications from an usual model and not from exceptions to represent the war's charakter.

КВ-85 was a short-term interim solution to fill the gap until production picked up on ИС-1 heavy tank. The latest КВ-1C (fast) hull was used for producing these tanks. Early variants had original turret with armour increased to 110mm, later ones mounted ИС turret.
I don't see why it's in the game at all when there exist ИС-1 and T-34-85. It's basically the stopgap solution that was made for the very reason that the former weren't available. Yet... They are available.

If it was underpowered, why not make it cheaper?
I don't really care about realistic armour or what not. I am concerned about game balance and tactics. What can Germany do now to kill this beast? And is it going to be fun to play against Soviets at all in the long run?

Funny, how the only little SU boost in the entire patch, coupled with many little boosts to nearly every other nation, apart from new units that'll have to show their worthiness yet, rises this zomby cry about SU being OP

In fact, I don't really know if it was necessary to increase KV-85's armor. May be it's a sort of justification for a price increase?
