Easyer way to control game mechanics
I recently played Wargame Europeean escalation, eventough that game has a lot of micro and many other things, they are very easy to use, they don't require so much micro like in Men of war. So why not make the game mechanics a lot easier to use, like zoom out more or control more squads of infantry at the same time. Would be very cool for the future Men of war game to have realistcally battle ranges, so that you wouldn't need to get very close with tanks to penetrate armor and things like that. People abandoned Theatre of war because it was laggy and unplayble most of times. But why not combine it.
Like large scale battles and easy controlable units? So that you can choose wheter you would like an infantry skirmish like now in men of war or a large schale battle to fight against massive amount of tanks and soldiers. The mechanics present now in Men of war require too much micromanagement, why not ease this a bit? By making the control much more easyer to use. In german soldiers they implemented a zoom out mod that is very helpful for controling your infantry.
Also instead of making Men of war more and more graphical demanding, why not add for the game new mechanics instead? Because people apreciate the gameplay more than the fancy graphics.
Large scale battles like in Theatre of war would be very cool to see in Men of war, because now if you try to control a very large number of units it is very dificil
.
Im not saying to make the game more Wargame-like but to use some of the control mechanics from that game.

I think Ive annoyed some hard core fans of the game with my ideeas, they don't want anything to change in the game, because they think is perfect like it is. But I just post my suggestion I don't have a problem with anyone. But I don't know what is the problem with people disliking my posts?

Well, For many people Men of War series are the last Hope (if we talking about a WW2 strategy game) in a world where companies prefer to do stupid simple arcade games and just do a huge publicity campaign for it, and bringing the same game over and over with diferent titles (CoH, 1C Men of War Vietnam and condemned Heroes and some many others) And U just see a guy coming and tryng to bring some ideas from games complety arcade , unrealistic and hated by people who love History. And When u read his post the first thing u thinking about is that the guy is tryng to turn a perfect game into a ****ty CoH or WoT And with that people might start to dislike you.
Like in your Other post: "Hey What if you change the whole system too choose your army kinda like in Shogun 2, Or What if u change the whole Penetration/Armor system into a life system for tanks like in WoT, Hey Why u just don't change the infantry controls like CoH" Stuff Like that makes people dislike you :/Last edited by Shootter; 01-06-2012 at 04:51.

What I said about world of tanks was only an example, on how the tanks should have theyr penetration, because is absurde to fire 20 shots in the front with 5 t34-s wich are assaulting a king tiger. In real life the t34 could-ve penetrate the armor, because I don't think if you fire 200 shots in the front of a king tiger with a 57 calibre gun you couldn't destroy the tank? Like I said that was only an example and this thread is about making the game mechanics easyer to use, because now is too much micro to control a lot of units ingame. What example could-ve gived about weakening the armor if it is hit repetedly?
I don't think it will turn the game arcadish but it will make it much more interesting and immersive to play if we add much more easyer to use mechanics to the game. Because you just can't have a huge tank battle without your tanks beeing a nightmare to control them, making easyer to control would be much more better.
The thing about customisable armies was because you have too many units to choose from. And nobody would use them all. But I'm sure the producers would figure out a balanced way to implement customisable armies if they wanted, like adding less heavy tanks and more light tanks wich would have the common penetration chances. And also by making a pack of units maybe like in Wargame. Because nobody seems to complain there about balance. So I don't see why not adding such a feature in the game if it would be very good balanced by the producers? And again the thing about Shogun 2 was only an example on how to compare the system to the one existent.Last edited by Vic Smecheru; 01-06-2012 at 08:02.

the Energy transferred by such Guns is way too low to have any influence of weakening within normal times , mayba firering a complete Day or longer may change something, but not less.
German Tanks used FHA Amor , which was like the name said Face hardened (aprox 5cm in depth) and cause the T34 Guns (76 and 57mm) don't have enough power to even scratch the Front Hull, theese projectiles would only scatter on impact and making a *bling* sound
try to penetrate a 1cm Steelplate with a 9mm Parrabellum round on 50m ... you will deform the plate within 100 rounds maybe but penetration will be hard, even on 90° impact angle.
well ... MoW has some Flaws like resupplying and Refuelling and some others , but its basics are good as they are and need no real rework to be like ToW or CoH, the Gameplay is too different.

Hold on right there. No, you couldn't. They couldn't bring enough concentrated energy to force the armor into plastic deformation. In practise it doesn't matter how often you shoot it with an undersized gun, it will not yield as long as the "damage" is caught within the armor's elastic zone. To bring in a virtual comparisation, that's why you use metal armors and not concrete armors - metal doesn't really wear off when not penetrated.

Theoretically Vic Smecheru is correct - if you fire enough times, and hit the same spot the all the time, the armor will in the end, be penetrated. However, those five T34´s in his example, would´ve been blown to smitherens long before that would´ve happened in real life, cause no sane King Tiger commander would´ve allowed those five T34´s to fire at him without his tank firing back...
When a shell fails to penetrate the armor, it DOES "eat" away a small portion of the armor, face-hardened or not. There are plenty of pictures available, both online and in books, where German tank crews points to scars on their tanks where enemy shells has hit but failed to penetrate.

Then you really must hit the exact same spot all the time. My statement both stands correct and I may ask you to re-read it precisely in the case your post is meant as a response to mine.
There was not enough concentrated ("at the same spot") energy - just like you said, you don't hit the same spot over and over again. Locally, you may enter plastic deformation directly where the shell hit - but not for the entire armor plate. They couldn't bring enough concentrated energy to force the armor into plastic deformation. In practise it doesn't matter how often you shoot it with an undersized gun, it will not yield as long as the "damage" is caught within the armor's elastic zone.

Take a look here. The armor has only weakened directly within the 4 hits (shown as red dots). The entire armor plate (all the white in the armor plate) however is unaffected, it stands as strong as it was brand-new.
Vic Smecheru has brought so many grand posts and great ideas to these forums (/irony) and draws ideas from pictures and movies and I dislike that, he should rather look into a metallurgy book. I could recommend some in case he can read German and is willing to order and pay for them.Best regards!

This model could only be realistic for late german tanks when good quality alloys were no longer available. The KT did suffer from that problem quite a lot. It wouldn't give anything useful to the game however.
