Meleeing
Hey there, i'm wondering if anyone has managed to make a weapon to just melee, what i mean is, if i get my soldier to equip a knife/crowbar he or she will use melee forever and i do not need to press the button to cause that soldier to engage with a melee attack.
Its for an idea i have.

Toss out his Gun, he will use his grenades if he has them and if not then he'll run up and punch them.
Alternatively, you can just hotkey the Melee button, just drag it onto your HUD ingame.
Whats your idea anyhow? ima curious
Knives are generally thrown by the AI anyway.Last edited by GeneralJ927; 13-05-2012 at 17:12. Reason: Quoting previous post

That's odd, for prior to posting I have performed a field test myself... ???
OK, I'll have to re-check this once more, thanks for your notice.
However it proves, it isn't the point though. You see, ripping your men off all the firearms and ammo, prior to sending them into a sort of a bayonet-charge, is not quite what is desired.
Nope, still no luck, except for the time when the guy is standing point-blank he doesn't engage in melee.
All in all: there seems to be no way to send a trooper into a melee attack, but to directly order him to "punch that fellow" (F7)

Got it to work
no longer have to press the melee button to engage in melee combat with weapons i select, created new so theres still the button to use with other non-melee weapons.
Just got to create an AI attack file now so they will use this melee.

Yeah, I had the same thought, but it went even a bit further: say, it wouldn't be bad, if you had a choice to set your infantry to go into an auto melee at a certain range? Just as some sort of a battle-order command.

No, he won't do sh!t if he has no weapons at all in your inventory (and if he does, he'll auto-switch to it when ordered to attack), so you're doomed to press F7 and mark the target every time you want him to go melee, unlike if you send him into some area with a fire arm - this way the guy is smart enough to shoot any enemy in sight, unless he's not told not to do so.
