View Full Version : GSM 6.6 + skirmishes comments, observations and report

So me and number of buddies from a steam heroic club all got gsm 6.6 and we mostly play skirmishes.
First, I will say we love the mod overall. Now when using GSM with dlc 2 skrimishes everything is working fine and there was no need for us to tweak anything, the only exception of course is that normal breed german sniper carries a non sniper rifle. I suspect that with gsm only the vet sniper is a sniper etc... thats no biggie.
Next we move to regular skirmishes, dms balanced them with regard to regular game balance. So I made a small mod that u load together with gsm so that for now 1 skirmish overlord is tweaked to work better with gsm. Less enemy inf spam, and of course I had to fix the supply truck because the default gsm supply trucks carry no mg ammo. With few changes we had a 8 player skirmish on overlord on heroic with gsm 6.6 plus my little skirmish tweak. The game took us about hour to beat and it was quite good, the armor battles were quite impressive.
Now, I have few things to post regarding quite serious problems we found and I am sure they are known but I will post anyways.
1. It seems with GSM when a hull gets any kind of damage, hull damaged, crushed etc.... even if you have repair icon on the vehicle and repair, once the repair ends the vehicle remains broken and unusable. This is quite annoying because if you don't remember what kind of damage a wreck received even if you have repair icon showing that you can repair it you are not sure if its truly repairable. I bet this has something to do with the states/ables of a vehicle and the new damage states added by GSM, I hope this can be fixed in future, this really hurts skirmish play.
2. There are instances when a tank will get hit, and all you see is crew confused but then they instantly bail, the tank shows no damage and it shows that you can enter the tank, but crew will enter and then instantly jump out, basically a tank is fully operational not broken but you cannot man it. This happens mainly on some tanks like stug and jag4. This can be quite frustrating.
3. This last problem is kinda original game problem just magnified by GSM, but here it goes. Basically a regular infantry vs elite infantry there is not much difference in GSM. Regular infantry rifleman shouldnt kill you in 1 shot at max range, but elite infantry should, thats basically all I am trying to say. I know I know thats not easy to do because damage is based on weapon. But maybe there is a way to reduce range of regular infantry vs elite? Basically there needs to be clear advantage of elite infantry vs regular, because currently a darn tankcrew can pick up sniper rifle or mg42 and be just as good with it as elite or regular infantry and thats just doesnt fit the gameplay well.

the default skirmishes have been fixed by me , but i dont own any of the DLCs by myself so i can't check it.
the trucks have the correct inventory now.
the infantry problems have been fixed, too.
on theese Bugs with the vehivles ... well they are skirmish related, even when GSM makes no difference in Vehicle Damage behaviour between SP (Skirmish & Coop) and MP it isn't working correctly, i will try to have a look on it.

I am happy that default skirmishes have been fixed! Btw I recommend deleting 2-4 soldiers from each ai infantry reinforcements as well because for GSM that staggering infantry spam is simply way too unbalanced. With the realism of weapon damage those odds are simply too much to deal with.
Btw, the skirmish fixes you can release as small addon mod if you dont wanna release big update and that be fine.
Btw, I don't think vehicle damage and repair is skirmish related. Skirmishes use stock vehicle models and default ables etc... I am pretty sure the repair bugs occur in mp too I can test it.

In meanwhile I have made a small mini mod that makes 3 of the original skirmishes compatible fully with gsm (for example mustang on overlord would attack without rockets with gsm), overloard, koenigsberg and battle axe for now, you can activate this mini mod once gsm is activated. http://www.gamefront.com/files/21400102/dj_gsm_addon_v2_rar I will try to play with number of my friends during the week and report. Vehicle "P16m29" has no texture pattern is black and white check board pattern. can it be fixed?

Discovered few more problems with it comes to regular skirmishes, such as missing fuel carnisters in tanks inventory, repair boxes, and for some reason the 203 arty wont come when ordered but this has to do with the fact 1 infantry man keeps jumping off of it and only 1 man cannot drive that thing, will try to solve this. Down the road I plan to have addon that makes all regular skirmishes compatible with gsm, maybe down the road it can be integrated.

good work both blub and dj too , i am really enjoying this mod
would be cool to add your addon in next gsm release because i often play skirmishes with friends for training and have some fun between competition matches

Ok, I have realized 203 in gsm cannot drive on its own so thats why it did not work in skirmish. Further, I did some testing on repair system and indeed in mp modes (vs) the repair system works fine, it seems the game understands the extra damage and it takes longer to repair sometimes than usual, however in sp mode/coop this does not work most of the time, further some of the inventories of tanks miss repair boxes. Anyways, does anyone have clue why in mp mode the repair system works fine but not in sp/coop mode? I am sure there is some easy way to fix this I just never done anything related to this. I really hope someone can fix the repair system in GSM for skirmish/missions because without this fixed and working just like in mp skirmishes are quite annoying when you can fix a tank only to find out repair stops after few moments and u cannot finish the job.
Update, I think i found why repair works fine in mp but not sp/coop, will try to fix it with the addon mod for skirmishes.

An update, I have released dj-gsm-addon version 3. With this activated after GSM 6.6 is already active all the problems with being unable to fix tanks in many cases in single player/coop/skirmish mode have been fixed! Tank inventories/supply truck inventories in regular skirmishes fixed. I have also adjusted entitymanager because in skirmish mode performance is more demanding than mp mode, the values are still higher than default game. For all the people who enjoy playing for example SirHinkels skirmishes with GSM 6.6 I suggest using my addon because with it u will be able to fix all the tanks that are repairable, without you will not. Just remember to always activate addon last after GSM 6.6 otherwise fixes will not work for sp mode.

Yes, I would love if you included this in the version, just be ware that entitymanager file would have to be modified so that the values you used are for mp only while the ones I tweaked are default (sp). Everything else is pretty much same with a small modification to few files so that all the mp repair/inv also occurs in sp. I will be playing few more regular skirmishes later today with some buddies to see whether there is anything else wrong and if anything I let you know.

Have played few regular skirmishes with my addon and gsm today and repairing tanks indeed worked just as in mp mode, there is one catch though if a soldier gets killed while entering a tank u just repaired his spot is taken until his body is revived or completely dead. But this is no biggie. We ran into some problems with germa half track not coming out when ordered once but all other times it worked fine so it could of been just some random script bug etc.... Overall everything I intended worked fine.
Slight problem, on solo German st hilare the sniper will spawn in as Ai not at players. This only happened since V3, it was ok in V2 just the sniper spawned with a rifle :(

I will take a look... based on what I see this shouldnt happen unless sniper was stuck in behind spawn by something have you tried ordering more than once? I will try to play and test it later but based on script there shouldnt be anything wrong.

Is there a way to unlock all Sir Hinkel skirmishes? I already unlocked all other skirmishes. By the way the 1st US Mission crashes back to desktop.

Are you playing still gsm 6.6? I hope you are not using my addon with new GSM 6.7.1 because new GSM includes all those fixes and more. Make sure you are updated to gsm 6.7.1 and dont use my gsm addon anymore, no need.

If you dont see sirhinkel skirmishes in skirmish menu thats most likely because for some reason GSM menu resizes and hides any button that are under Bonus button or even under 5 factions. One trick would be to place all sirhinkels skirmishes so they show up under one of the original factions through altering localization or use the .set file that hinkel included with his original skirmishes releease? not sure I can look into it if in the skirmish menu you only see 5 factions buttons and nothing below it cause its off screen. As for first us mission crashing, you are talking just gsm 6.7.1 loaded and no other mods right?

its a vet. tiger , cause i didn't used that vehilce in gsm it has no damage icon ;)

its cause it was changed in GSM from scoped to non scoped for normal infantry use ;)
