How about making all pictures of http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/outcoming/devupdate/ visible in a single page / thread? I'd love to browse them all on a page with small thumbnails. Could do it in a thread, but I don't know if that would be allowed.

A newsletter that writes you a mail when a new news comes out. Dont forget to implement a function to unsubscribe though. Also a small preview or the whole news in the mail without any pictures would be nice, if that is possible.

Devupdates ASAP :hurray:

I also like to read the summaries of games alot. Maybe you should update them so I got something new to read about. Write about features, amount of missions and so on, you know. Release date too. Oops :laser:

How about a rating section for mods or a page dedicated for advertising mods, so people could write small stories about their creations or summarize their doings. I know it is in the forums already, but a nice customizable page would be neat. Could maybe be done with the Wikipedia.

I could think of some more features, but those will have to wait until Dezember 7th. :x

You can use RSS feed if you want to be noticed for any News posted on the website. The Newsletter is only used for larger announcements.

We have added the most interesting Screenshots in the game detail page.

Something for Mods is in our minds, but not planned yet.

It would be great if you had a Download center that modders could upload there mods to, and to have the newest patch and GEM editor so people dont have to go on a treasure hunt to find them. I see that there is one already in progress buts its coming soon, will it also feature regular faces of war downloads?

Instinct
06-12-2007, 18:39
It will only feature regular content, no mods, atleast not at the beginning.

I would like to see an instruction manual in book form for the Gem Editors for FOW and Soldiers WWII.Is this a possibility? It would be a great help to those of us who want to mod.

I updated the forums layout, sadly we could not keep the forum images for the games since the cause problems with the layout. The cost of beauty for better handling ...

The Wiki's layout interferes with the sites own layout. At the moment it doesn't look well! :(

Instinct

Yes, I'm aware of that, but currently our resources are bound... I hope we can change it in a decent time.

I have a suggestion: rename the "Men of War" forum to "Men of War and Faces of War". At first when I visited this forum, I didn't even realize it was a forum for Faces of War, and thus dismissed posting here, because of that.

Instinct

We have none planned yet, however if the amount of South Koreans in the forums increase, we may think about it.

That would be great! I get the feeling we're all missing out here on some fantastic mods by our Eastern brothers in arms. I've still got that nice Chinese mod for SHoWWII. I was certainly hoping to see more but the poster of that mod never came back http://i150.photobucket.com/albums/s108/MadCatOmni/Soldiers%20emoticons/soldier_sad.gif.

But really, International section has all the juice in it, support-wise and resource-wise... :)

Check the russian subforum, no posts for ages...

I would like the moderators to be more active in the forum, especially with the current influx of new users. People disregard existing threads and open new ones at will, cluttering the forum (the number of new threads about getting a beta key is a good, but not only example). The number of offtopic posts is simply astounding across the board. The forum is used like a webchat, resulting in a huge clutter and making finding useful information very difficult.

I would like the moderators to remove irrelevant posts to help introduce the discipline as well as issue warnings to flooding users.

We do try but we're only human. Keeping track of the content of each and every thread becomes darn near impossible as they accumulate in a forum of this size. Remembering where some of them are is even harder. We'd need one of those savants that can remember everything they see and read to to that job. But if you know of topics that are out of place please inform a moderator and we'll look into it.

We do try but we're only human.

Use Report button to tell us what is wrong.

It is in the upper right corner of each post.

Recently, I used the ignore option which is supposed to hide the posts of the person in the list, but the threads of the user still kept coming up. Can you make the ignore system hide threads as well as posts? Thanks very much.

As a follow-up on my recent post here, just 1 day after the (limited) release of MoW we have new threads opened for the tiniest of issues and smallest of queries. If this continues, then within weeks no one will be able to find the required information, answers provided will become useless as players will post about the same issues over and over again. I suggest that new sticky threads are opened with titles roughly as follows:

Questions on game interface [/*:m:1j4ybuls]
Questions on lobby interface, Gamespy and server connection issues[/*:m:1j4ybuls]
Questions on SP missions[/*:m:1j4ybuls]
Questions about MP modes and tactics[/*:m:1j4ybuls]
Questions about models and vehicle characteristics [/*:m:1j4ybuls]
Most of the queries new players get should fall under these headings, while specific large conceptual issues will get threads of their own.
Alternatively, instead of threads, these could be made subfora of the "General discussion" forum.
In addition, general chit chat about last night's MP travails should get its own subforum to keep this from spilling over most other topics.

The open beta forum will soon merge into the suggested forum.

I think that it would be helpful if "Singleplayer discussion" sticky thread was renamed to something like "Singleplayer campaigns" or "Questions on SP missions"; and if "Tactics and strategy" subforum became "MoW Gameplay". Otherwise people who can't find a minesweeper/tank ammo/Backspace key may have trouble posting their questions in the appropriate place.

Make the "Newtopic" button available only to forum users with 10+ post count.

I have a simple suggestion: Rename this forum from "General Discussion" to "DMS General Discussion."

1: How about adding the embedding Youtube movie script?

2: And a good trick of making thread "56k Friendly" is to add the spoiler script, which basically means that the reader decides if he wants to see the pictures.
And you can have a higher resolution on maximum picture size.
Maybe add a script that resize them automatically?
Maximum before resizing: 1024x1024?

i don't know if it's just my problem but i came over some older posts which 'should' contain attachment (icon in thread topic name) but inside the post there are none or just text instead of link ...
was that removed ?

Yes we removed it, as people started to even upload pictures etc.

I thought that the attachment function is mainly for attaching pictures to your posts..?

We added it for small files people have troubles uploading, however it ended up in people uploading everything no matter there are plenty of image hosting websites.

You can't expect much else, since it is so much more convenient using existent attachment features than image-hosting sites. However, if you have a rule against uploading of pictures -and other unintended content- I'm sure an attachment feature would work out so long as the moderators actively enforce that rule. It would might happen on occasions, but I'm positive it would be manageable (formal rules do a world of difference.)

I would suggest to make redirect links to the Modification Wiki Page in both Mods Discussion and Mod Releases so people can easier access the "database" of modifications.

Same with the Map sub-forum.

I have a suggestion. When I check out the new posts, I always get annoyed by the fact that I have to do several steps before I can see the actual new message. Could the system be changed in a way that clicking the topic's name in the new posts partion would automatically take me to the latest unread message in that thread?

Sort of. But sometimes the thread may be really popular and I would like to view the first message I haven't read from that thread by clicking the name of the thread.

Thinking about making a history section either under:
Board index ‹ Community ‹ DMS General Discussion < "History Board"

or
Board index ‹ DMS Games ‹ Men of War ‹ English ‹ General Discussion < "History Board"

I would say myself that laying under the 2nd alternative will give it more view then the 1st one.

i have made a couple of posts about TV series which document WW2, i would like to be able to access these with greater ease so a button in my "own post" folder which made certain posts sticky would be great!!!
or perhaps an "own threads" button!!!
also orries idea about a HISTORY section would house posts of this kind very well.

I thought you should use the "Bookmark topic" feature...
At the end of this page you will find a Bookmark button. If you hit this button this topic is added in your bookmarks.

You can access to this bookmark from the DMS forum portal page.

Add a "Find threads started by user" feature please. I came to think of that now that I want to locate old modding-related threads that I have created, and this feature sure would make locating them alot more convenient.

^ That would be nice, but at the moment you can go to search and type your nick in the author box and search within topic titles. It should give you the threads you've started.

I have another suggestion:

Add a possibility hide text in a spoiler tag function.
This will make it possible to shorten long posts in Mod Threads, (Changelist, credits, screenshots etc)

I'm not sure if the screenshots will load automatically, or only after the Spoiler is opened.

Dilust
09-01-2010, 11:00
Yes, a spoiler tag function would be useful.

Now I have a question: is it possible to add attachements stored at DMS servers, like pictures and small files to a post?

I remember that a previous version of the forum allows a similar thing, then with the forum upgrades this option has been lost.

I think that a spoiler function would be very good to have, esp. for us modders like Orrie said.

A working chat would be awsome :) the IRC one on here keeps saying it times out... not good =[ i can get this site a shout box also, the ajax shout box is great, theres also an ajax chat mod for phpbb3 :)
Also it would rock if there was a modding tools production section, as im starting soon on making an easier user friendly SHOWW2 editor among some other nice things.

How can I insert my signature ? I have uploaded a picture but it dose not appear anywhere. In fact I don't see anyone's signature, maybe I messed up some settings, just don't know what.

Correction, I can see Dilust (http://digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/member.php?7801-Dilust) signature.
