Good Work, and amazing detail :woah: . For the Ambush textures maybe add a bit of Flora?

Maybe a bush to the front armor.. Speaking of.. How is that done? Just copy a line of something to somewhere and voila?

Thanks :)
basically you attach bones(dummys or point helper objects in 3ds max) to your vehicle and name them attach1-n. Then, make copies of these bones and rename them to detail1-n. These bones are children of the attach bones. Export the model.
Define what you want to attach to the attach bones in the *.def file or an *.ext file.
This way, you have a set of fixed "hardpoints" on your model and the random display of the detail feature.
forget the attach bones, just use dummy bones and name them detailx-n

If you are interested, you can download this StuG:

There are two variants: One with bushes for camouflage. Edit the *.def file for different foilage.
The other one (stugIIIb_nb) without bushes.
I've added three more winter texture mods.
Simply Astounding. Do you do requests?

Cromtec...
After seeing your Nbfz earlier I got a bit disappointed by the looks of this one. The Stug III B is one of my favorite vehicles of WWII and this one... needs a lot more work. You´ve got the looks of it quite right, but the width is way to small. The Stug III should´ve the same width as the Pz III medium tank (after all they are built on the same type of hull) and since your doesn´t have the correct width, the it looks way too high. I dont know what blueprints you have been working after but I do not think that they are 100% correct. Other than this, its looks quite OK.
A few other minor things that needs to be reworked is:
a) the width (as explained above). Fix this and it would look much better.
b) the gun recoil. On your Stug III the whole gun (including gun recouperator etc) recoils back into the hull. On the real thing only the gun barrel itself recoiled backwards. And the speed of the recoil should be a bit higher than it currently is.
c) also the speed of the vehicle itself when it is firing a round should be a bit more higher than it is. Right now it reminds me more of a granny in her rocking chair than a Stug III firing its main gun.
d) the hatches on the glacis. These werent normally used to access or to get out from the vehicle. These two hatches are meant for a mechanic to reach into the transmission and wheelbrakes etc. They could in a emergency be used for the driver and loader to get out, but they were very cramped inside and would only be used in a last ditch atempt to get out. The normal way to get in or out from the Stug III was to use the hatches located on the roof. Also the early Stug III´s had two emergency hatches located on the left and right side, right in the middle of the suspension work.
e) the _x and _xx files also needs to be checked. When I fired a 75mm round into your stug III B and watched the Stug III B go "ka-boom" I then noticed that several of the .ply´s were floating right in the air, like headlights, gun barrels etc werent attached to the hull. Maybe its a minor thing (I dunno how close people look at a destroyed vehicle) but its something that removes some of the "fun" if you ask me (but thats is just my opinion).
I know, it isn´t easy to get everything right, I have done my fair share of errors when making my own 3d vehicles, so please, take the above for what it is meant to be, just some friendly advices.
Oh and by the way, the Stug III B with the bushes attached... nah... and I couldnt get my four man crew to enter it, no matter what I tried to do.
~Zeke.
I've checked the dimensions again:
L=5.83
W=3.1
Z=1.95
Scale drawings by Doyle and Jentz, Osprey.
According to the specs in this document it is within the limits.
If you say increase the width you should tell me how much either percentage or meters.
I will change the fire sequence but you can easily change the speed settings in the mdl file if you don't like them.
Thanks for the info on the hatches. I saw some photos and guys entering it from there. Anyway.
I'll check the x-mdls again to find this bug.
If you don't like the bush version don't use it or change the def for smaller foilage. Somebody asked how to do it. This is just an example.
So, tell me your width numbers and I can change that within an hour.
Not anymore, sorry, I don't have enough time. maybe later.

Cromtec,
I´m not trying to be a smartass or so, I know that it isn´t easy to do these 3d vehicles (I´ve made some myself)... But look at this screenshot of a Pz IV G, your Stug III B and the Showw2 Stug III B (although this one has been modified into a Stug III F by me) and I havent done any resizing or so in the editor.
http://img129.imageshack.us/img129/5842/071211200200qv2.th.jpg (http://img129.imageshack.us/my.php?image=071211200200qv2.jpg)
The Pz IV and the Stug III differs only marginally in width (not by very much at all). Compare the three vehicles to each other and you´ll notice the difference in width. I´m not saying that the FoW/Showw2 vehicles are true in width, but at least they are basically the same in width. If you compare the dead germans to the vehicle width, the dead german in the middle must be at least over 2.20 metres in length if your stug III is close to 3 metres in width. I do not have access to the exact width measurement of the Stug III B, but I do have the measurement for the earlier Ausf. A (2.92 metres in width) and for the later Ausf. C-E (2.95 metres in width). The pz IV G had a width of 2.88 metres which means that it should be less in width than both your Stug III B and the Showw2 Stug III B.
If you have been using Doyles/Jentz blueprints and measurements, then they should be OK cause these two guys are the best at research when it comes to WWII German vehicles, but it doesn´t look ok in the editor, at least not to my eyes. If you have made it exactly to scale according their references, then it must either be the FoW/Showw2 guys getting their scale wrong or something has happened to your Stug III.
If you dont want to discuss this subject, please let me know, and I will keep my thoughts to myself. I wasnt trying to insult your work in any way.
Regards,
~Zeke.
Tsk tsk tsk Zeke... Kill 3 men to prove your point :lol:
After all... Gravediggers saying is that man has 3 dimensions - depth, length and width :lol: :lol:
But I must say, Stug 3 does look a bit too wide.
Resized:
L=5.54
W=2.38
X=2.43
-fire anim changed.
-reload speed doubled.
-volume issues on xx model resolved.
Change any speed settings to your liking in the *.def and *.mdl files

Very impressive. a new vehicle is always a nice addiction. :insane:
Can somebody please send me the *.def file of the stug with the bushes on it? I lost it and can't remember the detail syntax :brickwall:
Thanks :)
Got it :)
