HI guys,
I haven been playing Soldiers online for a few weeks now and I'd like to ask something.
There are games in which performance is slow, sometimes gruelly so, and sometimes it is smooth as a whistle. The slower games tend to be the ones in which more people are present, allthough I have played even 3 vs 3 games that had quite a good performance. SP games are absolutely no problem.
Now, I had two instances where a few guys said my computer was slow. Normally my computer seems to load the game faster then most, with most players still loading the game. And a few times where mine seemed to be slowest. After that I defragged and I had put shadows 'off' even earlier, allmost at the beginning.
After defragging I tried to play more, but results were inconclusive. I played only 1 3vs3 game and that was moderatly slow, though not awefull, with me being the forelast ready with loading up the game (though it seemed faster now that I had defragged). But the game disconnected after a while, and the server did not 'come back'. And when checking up on gamespy the lobby was empty save for 2-3 games still being played. I had the impression the whole of Gamespy was having trouble..
- Is turning shadows off advisable in my case?
- Are there other performance issues in the game I could work on? downgrading graphics details?
- What could be the limiting factor in my case, if any? My cpu, ram or videocard?
Specs:
2800 Mhz AMD
1 GB Ram
256 MB ATI 9600 videocard
dozens of GB free space
Soldiers game and mods on different partition then the windows (XP) install
Very low fragmentation, the Soldiers game and its mods are totally defragged
- Do others also experience now and then slow gaming, and what do you think causes it?
thx
