Problems with SHOWWII - Reboots Windows XP

Hi All!

First of all, I'd like to congratulate all those who put up this site and still support SHOWWII, one of my favorite games. Excellent site and forum.

I recently tried to go back to play some more SHOWWII (since I never grow tierd of it, thanks to the great MODs :hurray: ), but now as soon as I try and launch the game, it reboots my machine. No error messages, nothing, it's just reboots my PC instantly.
The only things different on my PC that I can remember of from the last time SHOWWII worked well is the normal Windows XP updates that I have installed and the updated graphic card drivers.

I'm running Windows XP Pro. SP2 (and SHOWWII patched to v1.28.3) with the following hardware:

Motherboard: ASUS A8N-E SK939 (nForce4 Ultra)
CPU: AMD64 X2 4600+ (Toledo)
Momory: Kingston 2GB (4x512MB) DDR400 Dual Channel
GFX: ASUS X1950XT 256MB GDDR3 (PCI-E)
HDD: Western Digital 250GB SATA II 16MB Cache

Did/does this happen to anyone else? The only thing I can think of is compatibility issues with my recent ATI Catalyst drivers. Though I have a friend that I play with on-line and he has very similar hardware in his machine compaired to mine, except he's running Windows Vista and SHOWWII is working fine with the SHOWWII Vista patch on his machine.
Anyone solved this with a work-around or should I go back using old ATI Catalyst drivers (something I really don't want to do :cry: )?

First off, very nice avatar! :realbig:

Have you tried setting the program compatability back to something earlier? Right click on the game program icon and it should draw up a window with properties listed at the bottom. Open that and then click on Compatability at the top of the window and then check off Windows Me98 as the compatability mode. It's what some of us Windows Vista users have to do. I hope that helps you out.

First we must to know , what is the error.

- clic button right on My PC .
- clic on properties .
- clic on advanced options .
- clic on configuration in option 3

you see this : (sorry my Windows XP is Spanish )

well , now you can try to execute SHOWW2 and read bluescreen error and post here if you want. ;)

Thanks for the help Mad Cat and Albus. I tried the the tip on enabling the SHOWWII executable to Windows 98/Me compatable, strangely though, the SHOWWII application immidiatly tells me I can not run it in the "compatability mode" :shady:

I didn't try anything else since I decided to install Vista (sorry Albus, thanks anyway ;) ) and finish with my problems and happely, its working great now.
