View Full Version : Low performance on Ultra setting

Hey,

Now first off I'd like to say; fantastic game. Spent so many hours in Men of War and this is a step in
the right direction, excellent job. Now I have one concern so far which might have been covered before
but you'll have to excuse me if it's a repeat.

I have a very capable gaming computer, I sort of expect to be able to crank up the settings and still have a very respectable frame-rate. Somehow, in this game, that isn't the case. I tried the maps labelled "DLC" which I believe are new maps (?) and they all have rubbish performance on Ultra settings, especially terrain details.

Also happens in most skirmish maps where there's a lot of objects. By rubbish performance I mean sub 5 frames per second when looking down the map in birds eye view, it's horrible. I had to drop AA and AF to 2x and Terrain detail to "High" just to make the game playable and it's still lagging.

Please tell me there's focus on this, while I love this game more than any other, it's no graphical wonder and shouldn't bring a computer like mine to its knees.

Again, very sorry if this has been answered and answered again, then you may roll me in tar and feathers

What card do you have? Apparently some people have issues with AMD cards. Lag on some of the skirmish maps is normal though, I don't think any card can display a completely destructable city without problems.

I have an ATi Sapphire 5970, so it's bad optimization I take it?

Well the performance issues on some AMD cards is an engine issue, which unfortunately can't be fixed by DMS . I have a Sapphire 5850 and the game works perfectly fine for me, but for some people its really bad.

But is it only with the DLC and Skirmish maps that you have issues? How does for instance the Battle Axe mission (not many buildings) run compared to the German mission (lots of buildings)

Tested quite a few maps and the maps that are from Men of War and the ones with a low building count are playable, it's definitely the buildings dragging the performance down. That is definitely bad optimization as the buildings in the game are extremely low poly and the geometry is very basic, no way would it drag down an 5970 under normal circumstances.

I just hope dms will take a second look at the rendering of the buildings.

GPUs have issues rendering grouped entities such as fully destructible buildings that consist of many parts, unfortunately there is no fix for it besides removing the destructibility. However if you have problems like you describe than you may want to try reducing the viewing distance in the options.
