Why did you join DMS and what game of there's did you play first.

Well i play'd S:HOWWII first, when i was maybe 10, then i saw that Faces of War was next in the seiries, with that i stated mapping and had questions posted them on ubisoft forums and jazor told most of us to go here where we get help. I then did and got my qusetions answer by searching the forums. I heard all about MOW and saw many of the Dev. updates. When MOW finally came out i got it, then when installing mp beta patch 1.13.4 i had problems and got this account to get them answerd, what about you guys, whats your DMS story?

My very first game was MoW.
I bought it last May and loved it ever since.

However, It almost never arrived so I almost never got the chance to join here.
But, After getting the game I just went to the forum and joined it because I always tend to join the forum for whatever game I get.

Also, I'm glad I joined here..I'v made some very nice friends on here.

I was surfing the net for Soldiers mods. And in a day of november 2007, I've found DMS. The first game was SHOWW2.

i joined up here at DMS as the ubi-soft FOW forums were getting quiet, i heard about DMS there because ubi-soft were not supporting the game any more!!!
SHOWW2 was my first encounter with this series but it had already been out a while and the multiplayer servers and codemaster forums were absoluteley dead as people were all using private servers which didnt even appear on the in-game mp list, then FOW came out very soon after i got SHOWW2 and the rest as they say is history!!!

My first game of the series was SHoWW2. I was searching for a game to buy.
I was undecided if buy D-day of Montecristo Studios or Soldiers. So I decided to download the demo for tis two games and then make a final decision.
The first demo I've downloaded was the Soldiers demo, and simply I fallen in love for this kind of game.
I never downloaded the D-Day demo.

I bought Soldiers and joined the Codemaster forum. There I meet a lot of kind and talented people like Mad Cat, UKDRancid, Brathering, Zip, LongAxe and Instinct, that helped me answering my noob questions

I bought Silent Heroes and Faces of War, but I have not enjoied the Ubisoft community. To say the truth i do not like FoW so much, something of the SHoWW2 soul is lost in FoW, what is that I can not say but I abandoned the series for some time.

Time after on a quick visit on the Ubisoft forum I have noticed a message by Instinct that invited Soldiers and FoW fan to partecipate to the Digitalmindsoft forum. I noticed that the soldiers and FoW community was moving on the DMS forum and when I saw the first devupdate for MoW I definitely joined the community.
Here I have met old friends and made new one.

When MoW is gone gold Instinct asked me to take care of the just founded italian section.
I bought MoW and next I'll buy Red Tide too.

I joined to ask a modding-related question. I released Commanders of War for Faces of War shortly after I had signed up too.

I started with Faces of War, sometime around January or February 2008 if I recall correctly. At first, I found it hard to learn. Then once I got the hang of it, I found the Co-op missions very enjoyable. I never liked its multiplayer, though, but I thought that it had potential nonetheless, so that's why I started modding.

I played SHoWW2 when it first came out then i removed it from my computer then early last year i reinstalled it, went to their website and finally found this site not even knowing about any of the addons or Faces of War or Men of War as none of the shops here have even heard of these games. I played most of the mods for SHoWW2 then bought both faces and men of war online late last year and think all of these games are great in their own way. I went into our local game shop and asked about Red Tide only last week and the guy said that none of these games [Faces, Men of War, Red Tide] have been sold in their shops all along the east coast of Australia. If only the gamers here new how good these games are.

Well, Men of War supposed to appear in EB on it's official international release date here in Melbourne.... (I kept checking local shops twice a week)... Then it was postponed until 31/12 the same year and later on publisher (whoever it was supposed to be) just dropped the title completely (wasn't happy at the time).

Just recently few copies of MoW appeared in some JB Hi-Fi shops... Nobody heard of Red Tide though.

I've played SHOWWII since it was released( I think I was 11-12 back then 8O ). Then one day I was on GSA looking for a SHOWWII MP match that I could join :typing: , then I saw Instict on the SHOWWII lobby chat saying Soldiers 2 announced and the same message had a link on DMS forums. Been member since I saw the first public beta phase when the game was still called Outfront 2. :D

I ended up joining the community for good and also found out that there was also FoW published few years before that. Instantly I bought the game loved it for a short while and then just started to hate it. When first beta was over I saw the SHOWWII part of the forum and started playing mods. Then I somehow ended up modding SHOWWII for few years. :) I've tried modding now but it just isn't as much fun as it used to be. (even in mow :( )

Hi guys,
I've been gone a long time. Real life has gotten in the way of all my play time but, since I'm now retired, it's time to start playing games again. I'm the old fart around here. I now have tons of time to play around.

My history was of complaining about a time limit when playing a war game. The fastest guy wins is crap to me and I was looking for a much more tactile and strategic type game. I searched a number of forums after buying a couple of those 'time limit' games and someone told me to buy FoW.
Man! I was sold! Great war game! I went to their forum and they sent me over here. I have since found out about SHoWII. It's even better then FoW!!! And, it's older!
So, I dropped FoW, uninstalled it and only play SHoWII, now.
I then heard about MoW. I signed up for beta testing and found it to be more like FoW and didn't like it all that much so I haven't bought it.
I'm still playin' SHoWII.
My questions are to some of you guys out there who have tried all the series. How is this MoW game??? Should I buy it after all or stick with SHoWII???

Thanks,

Zeke Wolff

Welcome back Rick!

Well, being an old time SHOWW2 player (played that game almost non-stop for over three years) and now been playing MoW since it was first released, I don´t plan to go back to play SHOWW2 again.

If you are like me, and enjoy SP much more than MP, then you might get a bit disappointed when comparing the SP campaigns from SHOWW2 with any of the ones from Faces of War and/or Men of War. SHOWW2´s were much better and more interesting to play (not to mention the fact that they didnt had all those annoying cut-scenes that the later two games have (way too many of them if you ask me)). But since all I play is DCG (Dynamic Campaign Generator) I really don´t care about the less interesting SP campaigns in MoW...

SHOWW2 has, as already stated, better SP campaigns and a bit more likeable interface than FoW/MoW.

MoW has, better graphics, more interesting units to play with (even if I don´t count all those silly prototypes and post-WW2 vehicles that has been added to both FoW and MoW), better tank vs tank system (penetration etc).

All three games (SHOWW2, FoW, and MoW) has somewhat stupid AI; ie in situations where 7 of your eight men can see the target and shot at it, the eight man still do silly things like throwing a at-handgrenade at the enemy, killing him and your seven other guys at the same time...

In the end, I think that it is up to you to decide: Personally I wont go back to play SHOWW2 again, however I wouldnt mind if someone ported all the SP campaigns from that game to MoW, since I´ve invested way too much time with our DCG mod and other stuff for the game.

There is a mod named MisGen0.6 made by Jason (team leader for DCG) which basically is the same as DCG, although made for SHOWW2 (that mod was what kept me playing SHOWW2 for almost three years). It is, however, quite basic when compared to DCG today.

Hiiiiiiiii Zeke!!!
So, you recommend the new MoW, huh?
I found the DCG to be too easy. All I needed was one sniper and a truck load of mines to win every mission. I made suggestions in the DCG thread of my opinions on how to improve it a little better to make it harder.
Do you know if it's been improved some over the last year or so?

Zeke if you liked both SHOWW2 in SP, you should try 2PZ Mod... in 1.5 version you will have about 50 new missions to remember those fun three years... and it's free... ;)

Yes, it has been improved quite a lot, but I don´t know if your suggestions has been added or not... sorry, can´t remember every little detail... me getting old... :realbig:

If you have only played DCG with FoW, then I can say that DCG with MoW is harder, but still easier than the boring "defend this place with 5 men against 2000+ enemies" kind of scripted SP campaigns in MoW...

Tanks, towed guns, etc will in the latest version (still not released) stop and fire against you when they see you, instead of just rushing past (your troops) trying to reach their objective at all cost. A new member of the team is also working on several new additions like "scripted" submissions like "hold this position, but you should also ambush this enemy convoy", but all this is still under work.
