I don't know if anyone would be interested in this...but I've recently modded my Men of War game to use the weapons sounds from Call of Duty, United Offensive and Call of Duty 2, since I personally disliked the weapons sounds in the standard MoW/DCG game.
If anyone is interested, I could let you try it...
P.S. I also changed the rates of fire of most of the weapons to what I felt were more 'historically accurate' values (ex. MG 42 fires at 1200 rounds/min)
didn't think taking game sounds was legit.
could be wrong but this might be shot down by that fact unless i am mistaken as i have not viewed the CoD EULAs of either of those games.

Frankly, people do it all the time for a lot of games. But I'm just doing it for myself, since I wasn't a big fan of Men of War's sounds. It should also be noted that they used alot of sounds that are very similar to those from Call of Duty (eg. Mosin-Nagant, 20mm FlaK 38 and Flakvierling). It's just that if anyone wants to try it you can PM me.

that in no way would make it legit.
either way i was just letting you know not trying to be a pain.
personally i like Men of Wars sounds just fine for their use.

Oh, I understand..if it does turn out to not be legit, I'll delete this thread (If that is possible).
I haven't read Call of Duty's EULA either...so yeah :P
Well, some of them are fine. I just thought some of the weapon sounds needed "improving", at least to me :P
Don't feel bad I too have "improved the sounds" for the mg42, and the browning .50 cal. Here is what I have so far for the mg42, Not perfect but improvement I think for me.

Yeah, that MG 42's a pain in the arse, so is the MG 34 =/. I really want to get that effect from Call of Duty because that's what it really sounds like in real life. =/ The problem is that since the sound plays each time it fires, they will overlap and it will sound like there's more than one gun. :( If anyone can help me with the MG 34 and 42, it would be really appreciated! :D
Please, try to avoid (actually... just don't do it) discussions about stealing, ripping and "borrowing" stuff. Especially don't do it in DCG subforums where two mod team members are also forum moderators :P

Just to clear up any confusion, my MG42 sounds, I made those.
I found a guy that owns an MG42, he was showing on youtube doing single shots with it, I took those single round sounds, and mixed them up. I did ask for permission, But have not received any word back, which is why I have not offered them up for any mod use.
If the sounds are liked and I don't get permission then I would just find a new set of sounds to mix up if it were decided to include them at some point in any mod.
Thanks.

Hmmm....well...if only I was allowed to own guns...would make this so much easier. :D

Men of War itself 'borrowed' sounds from Call of Duty. If you don't believe me, try comparing the sounds of the Mosin-Nagant and the 20 mm FlaK. :P
However, if the mods don't like this, then I don't mind them deleting the thread. I completely understand your concern and thanks for alerting me. :)
I could be that they didn't borrow any sounds, it could be that the sounds used are public domain sounds open for all.
But since they have not used them it is not for us to take, but to find the "public domain" originals to use.
That is the difference.

Hmmm...could be. Oh well. To be quite honest, I was always under the impression that as long as it was not for profit it was alright. Ah well, guess I was wrong...
First, I don't think this thread needs to be closed (not yet at least) since it could be good info for others who want to add stuff from other games. Don't do it if you don't have permission.
Second, I have no idea if MOW borrowed sounds from COD or some other game. I can compare sounds all I want but I'll never know what goes behind the curtains where contracts are signed, permissions are given or not etc, etc..
I know there are easy ways to borrow stuff, make your favorite mod better.... difference is some stuff can be released and some... shouldn't...
So, I can't stop anyone from using whatever they want but I can ask NOT to promote the idea of ripping other games to improve DCG and then suggest that parts of other games should be shared around. I just don't want any controversy around DCG and that's it.
