Seems like this could use some improvement. At the moment trying to properly coordinate a tank and escorting infantry is difficult, and very micro intensive. The mechanics to make this easier are already in place, but poorly executed. Nobody uses them, and for good reasons.

Selecting infantry and tanks at the same time makes the guys automatically arrange themselves around the tank. They are poorly placed however, most of them stand behind the tank where they are useless. Any guys that decide to take up place in front of the tank tend to throw themselves in front of the tracks whenever you direct control it.

It would be nice if we could have an option to let your guys take up different formations, or at least one that is more useful then the then the formation we have right now. Something like this perhaps.

We also desperately need the option to be able to select more then 8 units at once.

I also feel like something nice could be done with infantry sitting on the back of tanks. It's even less useful then it was in vanilla, because there are so many more men per squad while tanks still only have place for 4 men.

There is no real use in having guys sitting on the back of your tanks. I would at least suggest to allow more men to sit on tanks, and perhaps even give them the ability to shoot their weapons from those positions. Something which historically seems to have not been uncommon, when tanks needed protection from enemy infantry during close quarters fighting.

It just seems to me that some cool stuff could be done with a function that has no use at the moment.

I actually do use them for protecting my tanks from infantry laming, urgh, I mean ambushing. As shown in your screenshot it's almost impossible to sneak up that tank and grenade it. That make's the function pretty cool, but you're right, there's room for improvement. For example if you're rushing forward with your infantry and tanks and you're getting attacked, the infantry will not stop to shoot back but run forward till they reach their destination. Would be cool if it was like in Company of hereos where infantry can even shoot as they're storming forward - with a loss of accuracy of course.
