this mod is AWESOME!!! its looking better with each passing day :booyah:
What's the polycount for it sofar though?
It is now at 6500. I expect the complete model to be at 8000
The T-55 look nice.
To bad you don't do WW2 models, since some of the models in Men of War deserves a revamp.
Especially the Panther and the M4 Sherman.
The "market" for ww2 mods is currently saturated. That is why I am concentrating on creating a modern day era mod. It takes an awful amount of time for each vehicle, so I want to make sure that the product is actually played in the end.
Vietnam and the afghani present day is already covered by others, so me doing the cold war is the best choice I think.
Well, true that.
Are you going to make missions after you've done modelling?
Wont create any single player missions.

New russian infantry soldier model. The complete geometry is custom modeled except the hands and head.

Just a question really, is it harder to model human models than vehicle models?

Nice, you should make a Ghillie sniper next eh? Then all we need is a Hobo with a sign saying: "hit here."
Looks great though, keep up the good work mate. :beer2:
The mod's looking good. Lots of fun to play and looks like it will be getting better.
Just a question really, is it harder to model human models than vehicle models?
For me, it is like this:
I find organic models harder to make, but quicker too, than hard surface models (like tanks). Because for tanks you normally get to work off a blueprint whereas for humans you need to pay attention to proportions much more. Everyone knows what a human looks like. So if you screw up the proportions too much, it is very noticable. However if you screw up the shape of a tank a bit, no one will notice. So for an equally skilled modeler in both fields I assume organic models are much faster to create and UV map IF you know what you are doing. I am very inexperienced with organic models, but quite experienced with guns and vehicle modeling, so I would prefer to model vehicles. But a new infantry model won't make itself.

Repainted the RPG-7 texture a bit.
What penetration are you gonna add to the RPG 'cuz I dont like when people just make an RPG and one shot my tanks in ANY modern mod
The most basic warhead for the RPG7 has a penetration of 300mm. Which should get through the frontal armor of any modern tank up to the 1970s.
Can you adjust the gameplay so that people wont do them all the time.
Vehicles wouldnt work if only thing they have to do is to pay 1/5 of a tank to destroy it.
Well. Panzershreck could deal off 220 mm of penetration easy, that could knock out EVERYTHING back then. Everything works good in MoW with settings like that, so i guess it will work in MC too. You just have to be careful.

I agree with Hrcak47.
Changing things so you have an easier time will not solve or fix the chances of you being beaten.
But that is just my way of seeing it.
Although, I never seem to lose anything to panzerfausts or panzershrecks anyway.
I used to when I started but not as much anymore.
~Feared.

The price of a weapon does not have to match the target it can destroy.

RPG-7 is very inaccurate but quite powerful in a way, you would need to be close to hit a tank with it (i seen a phrase 'closer the better' on wikipedia). As its an 85mm, many game developers keep it at that penetration, 300mm thick paper can even stop this thing. :realbig:
Golly gee! :woah: :woah: Lets go make paper tanks! :booyah:
you know we can do this....oragami tanks FTW :insane:
As its an 85mm
That is the diameter of the warhead, not the penetration

That is the diameter of the warhead, not the penetration
Hehe i know, was linking to the rest of my sentence, developers most of the time take the size of the warhead (as in a 85mm) and place that as the penetration (which then gives them the damage). I'd recommend setting the penetration at a good level, so people don't go mental and having lines of RPG-7's, like i seen in a game of battlefield bad company 2, that was a fun match while being a gunner in a blackhawk. :realbig:

I too support the use of accurate penetration ratings, the better to force combined arms combat the better. However, it is my understanding that HEAT rounds gain little to no penetrating power from their kinetic energy. Am I right?
Blub0r2k
17-03-2010, 20:18
thats right ;)
However, it is my understanding that HEAT rounds gain little to no penetrating power from their kinetic energy. Am I right?
The most basic warhead for an RPG-7 is a shaped charge. It penetrates by creating a "needle" of copper that pierces through the armor. That charge is activated when the warhead hits the targets surface. All of the penetration is caused by the this mechanism. The rocket attached to the warhead is only used to reach the target
I think it's nice to be able to counter what's out there. Using an antitank unit is an ambush tactic anyway, you could get chopped up by the tank if it finds you or if you are good you can blow it to bits.
I'm really liking the other vehicles and the infantry in here.
The rpg-7 has a range of 50m in the mod, and during test firing, with the accuracy I gave it, it can still miss a BRDM at times. A T-55 is a larger target and probably not that fast, but you still have to get within 50m to kill it. The tank however can kill a tiny weak infantryman from much a larger distance, if he can see him.
I did not set the range for the T-55 main gun yet (and I am not done modeling it anyway), but I am going to set the same scale as MOW. Means the coaxial mg and and the AA mg will have comparable ranges to existing similar MOW weapons. Actually the AA mg is a KPT, which is the same gun as the KP you can buy in stock MOW. However it did get a slight increase in accuracy, because it is probably having some better optics (it is on a tank used 30 years later) and it is mounted on a heavy vehicle, which should stabilize it. But you still get the same range as in MOW, which is 100m for the KP. The tank main gun appears to be a similar one to the SU-100. So I am going to give it similar range and accuracy, probably a 10% bonus to reflect advance in weapon technology. About ammo types I am not sure yet. I could either keep the simple difference like in MOW (red and blue) or go a bit deeper with this.
Also I am going to keep the stock mow factions in the mod. Means players can play "what-if" situations, putting cold-war vehicles against ww2 ones. I will keep the same price scale, means you will get much better vehicles on the modern side for the same price. For example, The T-55 will get the same price as the SU-100 or some of the more advanced medium tanks. But it will likely mop the floor with any tiger or panther or IS2 it encounters.
I have a question , after your done modeling the T-55 whats next on your list to model?
That will turn out cool having the ability to use WW2 and Cold War factions together.
I have a question , after your done modeling the T-55 whats next on your list to model?
Perhaps a T-64, a BMP-1 or a BMD.

I have to admit, I don't really understand that, because the Modern factions would be overpowered then? Wouldn't it be better to make the tanks more expensive than the WW2 tanks, so the one that playes with the "ancient" faction isn't treated unfair?
The "ancient ones" will be only left in for fun basically. I want to keep the MOW pricing scale because if I would apply prices relative to their power, any modern MBT would cost more than a KT.

Custom remodeled DSHK for the T-55. I would have preferred to rip the model of the IS-3 but whatever, might as well just model it really quick.

You'll be needing the collimator sight box on top of that DShK :3 It was a standard on all Soviet tankmounted HMGs even from WW2.

Good lord its ugly :wilting:

So... I hope that you will make better textures on this one then just one simple color :)
the reason it is all one color is it hasnt been textured yet you little bugger.
but other wise nice work, the only thing i wonder about is using a mounted MG that is part of the model rather than a hand weapon added on.
It is part of the model on many tanks in MOW
So then, What's next cat?
T62? T72? T80? Shilka?
or perhaps a smaller vehicle? UAZ? Ural? BTR70-90?
Excellent work By the way, Love it.
Not a T-62 next, because that is another derivate of the T-55. And modeling a tank that looks almost exactly like the one I just modeled is not fun. It is basically doing the same stuff I was doing for weeks again. However the T-64 is different enough and quite High-end compared to the T-64. It was so high-end it was never exported to other countries.
My target is to get 4 vehicles fully working + the supporting infantry.
So far I have completed or am working on:
BRDM-2
T-55
Possible other vehicles:
BMP-1 (I could save a lot of work by upgrading the old BMP-2 model I made back in 2009)
BMD-1
T-64
SPG-9 tripod
DSHK Anti Aircracft MG
If you did not notice, I am trying to cover a wide range of different vehicles to cover the basic corners of vehicle selection. We got an armored car (BRDM-2), the medium priced tank (T-55)and so forth. The BRDM-2 is nearly useless in combat because it is practically impossible to not kill it with anything larger than rifle bullets.
On the infantry side, I plan to have the following basic selection.
Rifle squad (Ak-74)
VDV Paratroopers (similar to the elite infantry you can buy in MOW)
AT rocket soldier (RPG-7, also looking at other possible launchers)
Crewman
Officer
Spetznatz (Aks-74u, possibly the other elite squad you can buy, going to give them special stealth abilities)
Sniper (Dragunov)
I got one basic infantry model created, but it is quite generic. So I might remodel it. The aim is to have at least 4 different infantry models (Regular, VDV, Spetznatz, Crew).
And if I complete all of that, and release, and someone is actually playing that, I might look at other factions, like West Germany, Guerillas, USA.
btw if you would like to assist me with reference material, I am looking for photos of:
Regular infantry
VDV
Crewmen
Snipers
Spetznatz
All in usual combat uniforms/vest as they were used during 1950-1980.

Old wheel - green
New wheel - white
Remodeled the wheels, because the old model looked really bad and bad looking wheels are very obvious on a tank.

How is it going cat?
I'm just really interested in seeing more modern equipment for Men of War. :)
I've started playing with the BMP in the editor. Can't wait for the next version, do you know what was wrong with the guns that couldn't be picked up? (shame, so many cool guns hard to use in editor/skirmishes)
I had an issue with not being able to pick up guns in the editor, I don't know why but disabling all ai stuff then let me pick them up (making control = player, and ai move = disable).

There is an issue with some weapons not being possible to pick up. This is because I forgot to add certain "ext" code to the def files of some weapons.
If I ever get to creating a next version, this is going to be fixed. Also I am a tiny bit swamped with other things, which is delaying the T-55. The model is complete, left is to finish the texture and export into the game.
Ah, okay, thanks for the info on the guns. Can't wait for the next version, hope you finish it.
It's a very cool mod. So cool to have these vehicles in-game.

Alright so here goes, see if we can wrap up the tech help in cat's thread.
It's perfectly relevent, because this is probably what plenty of people who haven't registered are thinkng.
So, go to your MOW file location and start a new folder called "mods". Put the modern combat folder in there. cat should have up on the first page what patch is the minimum to run it. If you don't have that patch, you should get it.
When you boot up, go to the mod list and select modern combat and switch it to the other list.
