View Full Version : Men of War Editor Tutorials?
Is there possibly a resource out there that has a full Documention or am I going to be stuck reading through the Tutorial's and Faq fourm?
That would be awesome.
I haven't stumbled upon any complete dictionary on anything in MOW, so you'll likely remain stuck at reading bits from here and there.
Hi there,
I've just recently bought Men of War and im highly interested in learning the editor, so i've played around with it for a couple of days and figured out more or less the basics, still it's hard without any documentation or real tutorials especially when it comes to scripting/events/waypoints/triggers etc.
I see there's a forum dedicated to tutorials , mostly old topics from Faces of War time, but will there be any more in depth documentation or tutorials released officialy?, Let's say its just hard if you've to learn "everything" by experimenting.
Last but not least, i'd like know how you make roads if anyone knows that :)?

First, sorry for my English guys. There is a 2 basic way to create roads.
IMPORTANT: This all have to be done in MAP editing mode F2. Do not just switch from your mission mode F3. Unload you mission (if it loaded already) and only then switch to F2.
1 way to do it
You use “entities / landscape /stamps /roads “from the editor. There are many prebuilt textures for road inside. If you use this method, you have to “paint it” to let game engine know this is actually road, and assign FX (dust/tracks marks) accordingly.
How to do it
Switch to “land” second options from the top in editor. The click on “Terrains”
You will see 2 text boxes with more color coded text.
From the 1 box (top one) choose Road, from second box; choose what effects it will use when solders/cars will walk/drive on your road.
Then adjust size of your cursor (NUM + / NUM - on keypad) and paint on top of you road.
Second way (a little more complicated, but if you need to design big road that’s the only way to go)
That’s how most of the city roads done in game.
You start with ““entities / landscape /stamps /roads “like before. But this time you look for texture which looks like corner of the road.
asphalt_road_q4 for example (there is a couple more. Just look for it)
Then you basically have to build you road corner by corner. Leave middle empty. Now. Let say base of you map are plain grass. After you done build “skeleton of you road, you need to fill it with right texture inside.
Choose “Land / Textures”. Create new “brush”. Choose your base grass texture (or any texture surrounding your road) for right box. Then choose for example “asfalt_road1” for left box.
Make corners of you brush sharp. And starts paint it. After you done, you can generate FX for your road automatically (if you use right textures engine will recognize it itself).
Switch to “land / terrains” and click on “texture fill”. FX will be applied automatically. I’m personally preferred to use manual method, because “auto” mode scry some other textures you use for other part on your map.

There are *no* official tutorials. If you don't know something outside the tutorials written by other users you either have to experiment or ask around. But old tutorials work just as well for Men of War.
