So now the problem is even more mysterious than in my last thread (http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2135). This time the game and everything else freezes, but not the sound! It continues playing as nothing happened. Please don't tell me it's not an issue with cursed ATI drivers again, this time I'm using 9.1 however

Well that's a relief. Hopefully it'll be fixed in the next patch. As I've observed it happens very randomly, after a couple of reboots I could play the game for a few hours without it crashing.

pls deactivate "Full Screen" in your gameoptions, so you can kill Men of War with windows taskmanager, without rebooting your system after game freeze.

exact same problem.. had it for ages now, even from early MOW beta times, any chance the memory management is not so very optimized?

Nah that doesn't help, because ctrl+alt+delete, alt+f4 or anything stops responding.. as well as numlock, capslock and scroll lock lights on my keyboard. Background music though continues playing normally, so it doesn't get caught in a loop. A strange thing is that, when I underclocked my E8400 by 100MHz, it doesn't crash anymore. Pretty strange, considering I haven't ever had any problems with other games @ 4,3GHz. I can even loop diagnostics/test programs forever and they don't come up with any errors.

dunno if this will really help but i looked into the readme and it says this

4. KNOWN ISSUES

4.1 Game crashes into Blue Screen

The game may show instability on systems with 1Gb RAM, Windows XP, and anti-virus software installed.
Please expand your RAM, uninstall anti-virus software or install Windows Vista to solve the problem.

maybe its known issue already and their fixing it?

almost every windows xp user have a anti virus

1. Game breaking due to antivirus is retarded, I doubt it could be that stupid a reason..

2. I have Vista Ultimate 64-bit and 4GB of RAM, so their suggestions don't affect me.

yep its to obvious... must be something bad in the memory management code

Could you post the answer here, if you get one? I just had two crashes in 5 minutes today, so underclocking didn't help after all, though it seemed so at first. So random :baseball:

sure !

Hello,

such freezes may not be connected to the game. It may be your overheating or faulty hardware causing this, old/corrupt drivers, etc.

please try following:
1) install all updates for your Windows
2) install this latest release of DirectX - http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/directx.html
3) uninstall your current graphics card driver, restart your PC into safe mode and use DriverSweeper utility to delete any remains left by previous graphics card drivers. To boot into safe mode, press F8 during booting and select "boot in safe mode". When you run DriverSweeper utility, select Nvidia - Display, click Analyze, then Clean. Restart you PC again, normally. Then install this driver for your graphics card.
4) turn off any file scanning application before running the game (antivirus, antispyware, firewall..)
5) driver for your sound card is about 4 years old. Uninstall it, then install latest one. You can find latest driver for your sound card here
6) I see you have dual core CPU. Try running the game with one core of your CPU only. Here is how to do it:
Launch the game into main menu
Use Alt+Tab to switch back to desktop
Run task manager (press ctrl+alt+del) and click on "Processes" tab
Here, you should see something like "mow.exe" in the list. Right click on it with your mouse button and click "Set affinity"
Leave only one core checked (uncheck others)
Alt+tab back to the game and see if it still freezes
7) If any of your hardware is overclocked, return its clocks back to default.

nothing of specific that solves the problem ... but thank you anyway for your reply :)

Yup, didn't expect anything more than a generic reply really. One thing is always overheating, but it cannot be, because the sound isn't affected, while everything else is. Usually crashes due to hardware are permanent lockouts until you reset.

But sometimes solutions are quite extraordinary. Today I had problems hosting a COD4 server on my other PC, because the multiplayer exe always gave an error on startup. Well, teh internets suggested that some malware does that. Nothing was found however. Then I stumbled across a hint which said to plug in a microphone or enable stereo mix from the depths of vista configuration, which by default is disabled. I did that and suddenly everything worked smoothly 8O Though I still couldn't join any MP games that I hosted on this PC, so I had to host on the other one to join from this one, then it worked :x Weird ****. In this case of freezing the solution has to be something nobody has thought of

continue the random crash, I noticed that if I change something about video settings crashes much more (my ps is : Coreduo2 6750, 2 Gb ram, 8800 GTS) ... I have done EVERYTHING that from the support I have updated ALL but was not used to anything, now I hope only in patches otherwise I will have wasted 40 euro :brickwall:

Write them again and tell them that it did not help?
Maybe then you get individual help.

Good. Sometimes those tech-support people will copy-pasta you answers until you give up or forget about the problem at all.

Be persistent, and keep us informed.

I am not sure, but I think the freezes on my system were caused by the Antivir Guard (virus scan/guard program). Maybe you could try temporarily deactivating the virus guard while playing.

pelitys

Avast is tried and tested program which should not cause any problems with my experience. The crashes are so random there might not be noticeable change even if it caused problems, you could get two crashes in 10 minutes or none in a few days, so switching it off and trying doesn't prove anything. Unless the crash can reliably be replicated and then removed by turning off antivir.

UsF

Well as I said i havent had a crash with the Antivir-Guard turned off. Maybe MoW uses the graphics driver in a weired way caused by the engine. I had the same problem with SHOWW2 and FoW and never found the problem and always had Antivir. I will write back if the crashes happen with Antivir-Guard turned off but until then, I will temporarily deactivate it.

I also just want to report I'm getting crashes. I posted earlier in here but it disappeared.

still no news about this?

seems like my computer tries to retrieve DHCP info right before it crashes (found in event viewer) and im really sure this must be one of the issues since it happened twice for me today and it got reported twice to
(it also failed to retrieve info)

EDIT
found a thread regarding it to:
http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic26439.html

EDIT2
looks like it never crashes in w7 anymore

I am receiving lockups again, but I do not know why. Checked my system event viewer-folder and found the following lockup error codes that always turn up the exactly same way with the exact same addresses.

0x000000d1 (0x00000104, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xb6f27675).
0x000000ea (0x89b0fda8, 0x88eae850, 0xba4e3cbc, 0x00000001)
0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0xde134932, 0xef6eebc8, 0xef6ee8c4)

They all appear when playing MoW and only MoW. I wrote a mail to techsupport at 1cpublishing.eu. Hope they can help me (and those that have the same issues).

The problem is that our lockups happen randomly during the game, you crash when you start up the game (because your settings were probably wrong, you just can't see anything because monitor goes out of range (http://www.digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3487)).
