No contest. Soldiers-Heroes of World War II by miles. More realistic than that arcadish and foul wannabe FoW. I can't call FoW a true sequel for I'd be gravely insulting the original.

I voted for SHOWW2 simply due to it being more realistic etc when it comes to tank vs tank combat and infantry fights, and it was also much less arcadish than FoW. However, I still play FoW a lot more than SHOWW2 due to the fact that I like the superior gfx in FoW a lot better, but also due to the fact that DCG is available to FoW... :realbig:

I had to vote for FoW...

I got it before i got Showw2

I am currently playing through the Showw2 campaign though, i like it a lot! Although.. it feels a bit "cold" and linear" compared to FoW campaign. FoW was the new thing for me since i hadn't played Showw2. It beated all my strategy games without even trying! When i got the demo, i was sold! I played the demo until the game was released! Best game ever so far!

But i haven't tried out mp, but i don't like mp, just coop in mp so.. i'm just talking about the campaign.. o_O

Although.. the reason why i didn't buy Showw2 when it came out is because i had to make a very hard choice! I was in the store, i had both the game Battlefield 1942 in my left hand and Showw2 in my right hand. I choosed Bf1942! But i'm a little disappointed but also very glad since bf1942 is in top 3 of my favorite games ever! I played that games for 3 years, yes 3 years! Also i played it yesterday! :D But now i got Showw2 and i'm trying it out, still a very good game which have so much more good features and ideas then FoW, but if they could be transported to FoW we'd get the best game ever!

Soldiers SP was anything but cold and linear. It was a lot more unlinear than FoW in which you are funneled through streets and such with no flanking opportunities constantly. And the rural maps in FoW aren't a great improvement either since they have their own linearity problems like minefields and invulnerable guns blocking paths the devs were too lazy to include as playable. In my opinion like FoW tried to be more mainstream and failed miserably.

That being said, I've found FoW to be a very flexible modding platform and managed to mod it to my liking in the 2 years since it was released. The only problem is that the maps that already exist are horrible and don't lend themselves to any sort of more realistic gameplay, which is why I am not sure whether to release the mod since it would only really be useful to mappers like myself who would want to create more realistic scenarios for it.

Standard game without mods of SHOWW2 it is not more realistic than the standard FoW. The difference are the mods. SHOWW2 BTRH mod it is good, but also BTRH FOW it is good too, with much better graphic and graphic engine ....so i vote for Faces of War.

I voted for FoW. It was the best RTS ever compared to the other ones I had. Though, I still don't have Soldiers but playing FoW with mods makes it for me. :P

i had bought showw2 on budget label and had only played the first missions when i came across FOW in a shop, as i looked at the pics on the box i realised that it had to be a new version of showw2!!!
so when i played FOW i was gripped by the superior grafix and SHOWW2 got layed aside, i have went back to play SHOWW2 a few times but could see that with mods or if the devs had had more time with it that FOW was the better of the 2 imho :yes:

SHOWW2 was great , it was something like a game never before, but now we will have MOW and this will be the best... at least that I hope.

Showw2 For sure, Showw2 without mods vs. Fow without mods, showw2 wins, Fow with mods vs Showw2 without mods, a draw or a fow lucky victory, but both games with mods, showw2 wins from far far far away.
Long Live To Showw2, I hope same to Mow....

SHOWW2 by far is the best one. Arcady FoW is just another piece of garbage among a myriad of other WW2 RTS games. With mods SHOWW2 is even more amazing, for a 2004 game it is very, very impressing. Only MoW shall surpass it in greatness.

I think its a bit unfair to use the words just another piece of garbage among a myriad of other WW2 RTS games cause FOW, even though it were more arcade than SHOW2, is a far more tactial game than almost every other RTS game out there.

I think FOWs great and theres mods that makes it even better by the way.

SHOW2 is the best of them so far, I hope MOW will take the throne but untill that its FOW with all the mods thats been released.

Yeah the visuals are pretty slick but otherwise I don't like it.
Pretty miraculous that MoW is based on FoW, it being such an "arcady" game turned into a HC combat physics simulator o_O
