Hi everyone again :)

For those who don't know , Gmax is freeware from Turbosquid. Gmax is basicaly the lil brother to 3ds max, non the less it is a powerfull program. I have been using it for about 6 months now. my earlier post I included some cheap pics of a very early stage of modeling T-72 A1 version MBT.

to show you all just how good Gmax works I am including pics of a very cool T-72 DU version upgraded with Glacis reactive armor.

I'm not saying its is top Gmax in modeling apps. but it is very effective at rendering models for export to another program such as 3ds max, Milkshape, Maya ect. one thing i rly like about Gmax is that all 3ds max models can be inportet into any Gmax scene without need of a plugin. This being that 3ds max was born from Gmax and they share the same .max format.you can't however import Gmax models into 3ds ect without a plugin.the reason being that even tho it is .max format it saves as a Gmax.max. but at any rate , for freeware it kicks butt. have a look and decide.

The model below was created from scratch and textured in Gmax 1.2

actualy I'm not that good at modeling. I found it takes alot of research into whatever model you are making. say you want to make a M60A3 tank for say a vietnam era mod. making that tank will take hrs of googling to find pics and blue prints that have the different views of that vehicle and the version of it that you are making, side/top/rear/front/bottom. you need this info to properly model and texture. then comes learning the app you are using. since not all are the same. patience, trial and error are a big part of this process. leaarning what poly is and how to use it, faces, bolean ect, very tricky for a new comer to pick up quikly. do not expect to just jump in and have models percectly created in just a few days. this T72 took me about 1 week to get it right, thats with my daytime job pluss researching to find the info I needed to properly model it. and it is still not complete lol, there is still some work to do with the MG mount/ tool boxes arent textured correctly yet, I just threw on a green texture to help show them off. and the animation is still not done.

This is a time consuming process that requires alot of patience and creativity.
Don't get discouraged and be patient. Keep a clear head as well and you will do fine.
I'm not into ww2 modeling as much as most ppl on this board are. I'm into modern warfare and thats what my mod will be. Love the games tho and play them daily. I just want a modern version.
if youwant a very good example of great Model creation? take a look at Zeke Wolf posts. superb modeler.

Does it work with Vista?
I'm getting problems with UI whenever I click one of the four boxes... (front, perspective, back, etc...)
Could it be that I chose Direct 3D or something as the render thing when it starts up? I know that you could choose Open GL and some other thing called HEIDI or whatnot... :(
It's impossible to do anything because of that, just clicking or doing something blocks it all up and makes it hard to see. Please help! :sad2:
