Did the Russians use smoke grenades in WW2? And if so, to what extent?

I'm doing some research for the next version of my mod, so I would appreciate if someone could answer my question.

Well I can't say I know for certain but they most probably did. A smoke grenade isn't anything too technologically advanced so they would most likely have them available.

They had two. The RGD-1 and the "S" smoke grenade. Linky (http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/sovgrenades/index.html).

I have another question about Russian grenades:

A lot of times when I see footage of Soviet troops throwing nades the grenades are on fire. Why did their grenades catch fire/ get lit on fire?

They were probably using Molotov cocktails (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molotov_cocktail) instead of regular grenades.

ive seen a lot of ww2 footage with red army soldiers throwing flaming nades that look just like the standard ones.

Sticky bombs? They are obviously not for throwing but they have to be lit too :ninja:

Well I'm not an expert but I was under the impression (from various documentaries, films and games) that at least some WWII era grenades gave off smoke when they were armed.
