View Full Version : Controls: Soldiers vs FoW vs MoW

I have (unless I am mistaken) found a couple of issues with the controls in Soldiers vs FoW:
(a) In Soldiers you can get units to follow each other by selecting the unit, pressing 'J' (or clicking on the Follow icon second from right on the bottom bar) and then clicking on the unit you want to follow. This is brilliant for at least two reasons: (1) Moving a column through a partially cleared minefield (2) getting a squad of infantry to follow a tank and provide support against attacking infantry. I can't find a Follow command in FoW...
(b) In Soldiers you can zoom right out and select everything under your command (and that can be heck of a lot in some of the big battle mods) and then, for example draw and load all weapons and set everyone to hold position and return fire. In FoW you don't seem to be able to do that; you just end up selecting a squad or two (even if I fiddle with the squad buttons). Infuriating to select each and every squad unit to make these selections individually...

What are we getting in MoW? Please say it is the Soldiers type system!

+1

Its rubbish that in FoW when you drag the selection box it just disappears when you zoom or unzoom...
And the squad system sucks that you can't select all your troops at once and is a pain to give orders like you said... This would make MoW a whole lot better to be honest. :?

Thanks Bf2player.

So Instinct, please tell us if that awful FoW squad system has been ditched in MoW? Maybe it has been covered in a thread somewhere; I don't know.
If players want to make squads (including vehicles) the Soldiers system works just fine: drag a square to select, Ctrl+1 = squad 1 and so on...
Thanks

Aye, that'd be great. One thing I'd like to keep is the auto cover selection, so you can send the whole squad to hide behind a wall at once; I didn't like placing every one of them next to each other in Soldiers.

Are there keys or commands in Soldiers and/or FoW to turn off the user interface, i.e. all that buttons to see the battlefield only?

In-game, no, there isn't a key to hide the interface, but in the editor you can by pressing "ALT-D".

Thanks for that quick answer mate.... :)

So no disabling in game.... Aren`t there any tricks to use Alt+D ingame, too? Some little mod for example?
...or some way to play the game in "editor mode" or something like that? ;)

And whats about "Soldiers"? The same with it, too? "Alt+D" and in editor only, too?

I think it's an engine limitation so it would be almost impossible to do that in-game of hiding the interface.
Nope, no editor mode. For it you must download the GEM editor here (for FoW): English DL (http://files.games.1c.ru/vtv_2/files/misc/editor_1.04.1en.exe).
So yes, its only in the editor, no such of that in-game, but still, if you don't like the interface blocking the view you can play the game in the editor itself as far as I know and when you find a good sreenshot scene just pause, Alt+D, and take screenshot... :P

P.S. Here is a very good FAQ of the GEM editor to get you started :P Clicky (http://digitalmindsoft.eu/forums/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=59)

Thank you very much again for your helpful answer!

I`ll try it out later...I`m really looking forward to it... :)

I really wonder why there is no option to turn it off in the game itself...in almost ANY game I know it is possible...

Well, let`s see.
