After groundbreaking success with Storm over Europe RWM for Soldiers Heroes of World War II we proudly announce the 2nd Part of SoE.
Storm over Europe 2 is coming to your PC in 2008, released at the same time with retail Men of War.
Storm over Europe2 RWM would be a free to download game modification for the Men of War retail pc game. The SoE2 Mod installs alongside the existing game installation allowing both the original and SoE2 RWM to be played separately without causing conflicts.
The Mod developers' aims are to rework the original game developed by Best Way and DMS within legal and feasible constraints to create a realistic combat environment for gamers. This includes adjusting the games various elements including physics, visual effects and game play. Along with changes to how the game handles, the SoE2 team intends to include additional factions, such as the British military and add to or alter existing factions so that they resemble real life combat elements found within their contemporary environments.
The Mods name, 'SoE2 RWM', is self descriptive in its aim to create a realistic combat environment on the home computer. The SoE2 team comprises a group of dedicated individuals, several of whom have backgrounds in armed services of WW2, whose sole task is to provide researched material, including statistical information, to the developers who are in turn tasked with coding and creating the mod itself. If you are looking for a fact based RTS from the perspective of company warfare, we feel SoE2 RWM will provide for your gaming needs.

We need kindly people for working with 3Dsmax, Photoshop, Gem Editor and Coders of the MoW PC engine. Also people with experience in video editing and flash are needed. I want to remark that every new crewmember for SoE2 RWM will become a free copy of the Russian “Men of War” A1 now. So, we want you...

Today we want to share a few information and visuals with you. Here we present a completely new build map called "Groesbeek Heights". The Groesbeek area was one of the key positions in "Operation Market Garden" to capture the city of Nijmegen in September 1944. It´s a area of wooded hills about 8 miles long to the east of Nijmegen.
This map is the first of a series of new maps supporting bigger ranges and engagements in SoE2. "Groesbeek" have a size of 1300x550 meters in game. On this map you will become a completely other gaming experience as in the retail MoW game depend on realistic combat ranges for infantry and tank weapons. You will find only buy able stuff from the realistic period of time (September 1944) if you play with the realistic SoE2 Sep. 1944 setting on this map. For example "Panthers" from the 2. SS Panzercorps or "Firefly Sherman's " from Irish Guards Group. For all that will not playing our map´s with a realistic unit set-up, it is possible to play it with all stuff. Both of them are available.
We have agonize how we can display the great dimensions and lovely build details of the map for you. And we decided to make a short overfly video from our new map "Groesbeek Heights".

We know the community is waiting so long for news about our modification. So here we go again for a next update. Today we want to inform you about a another big new map for SOE2. This map is totally new build from scratch and have the Brest thematic. In the year of 1944 in august the operation "Cobra" was started by the allied force to break-out from the Normandy bridgehead. This map will feature the battle of Brest with all the street fights from house to house, deadly bunkers and bloody artillery all over the map.

Update three for Storm over Europe 2 modification. We proudly present new informations about our mod.
Our new map is set in the time period of August 1944 in the area of Mielec in south east Poland in the near of the border to the Ukraine. A plenty of fighting groups hit each other. German 23. PzD, 24.PzD
and 78. GD has contact with seven devisions of the 5. russian Garde-Armee.

We are not going to clone BTRH. This is not necessary. Rather we are going be the "European Counterweight" to BTRH in fact of quality,realism and game play.
The first release of SoE2 RWM will focused on the multiplayer part, but we have fixed plans of singelplayer missions delivered with several patches after the first release.
I'm and we are aware of that many people loved SoE1 for the nice singelplayer missions.

I myself tested with bigger ranges and it makes a all new game, specially if the speeds are all tweaked accordantly (making for an almost 1:1 simulation) For me the difficulty arises when balancing movement speeds rotation speeds bullet speeds.
I made an 1.5Kx1K map and thats big for fOW standards but 2k! :beer:
Question, do you suppose that even the older machines can handle 2km by 2km maps? I disagree with this. Even a wellmade 500x500 is enough to put an older rig to it's knees.

Yes, of curse old rig´s will not handle such a big maps, but i think the European and American market differs from the Russian market. On the release day there will be many people on Core2Duo/8800 GT standard. And that totally enough for our mod. May be some player must pimp their old rig a little bit...
But we will find a good compromise between big maps,stuff on the map,ranges and old computers.

Ähm, a realistic looking texture in relation to camouflage, division sign and equipment. Open your FoW and compare. I intended it for a first look/teaser...

Don´t let the old rig scalling get in the way of your intencions.
Anyway with increased ranges less things happen in game on a given place/ frame so im cofidente even old rigs will still be able to run it.
PS: Form my experience - with tanks shooting from 400/ 450 mt HMG 250 mt and rifles 150 mt ( I found out a progression in ranges from 1:5 in tanks to 1:2 SMGs better suited me) I didn't experience any lag in a 1.5 km2 map with around 10 tanks plus mortars, AT guns and plenty infantry- I´m running on a C6600 (dual core) and 7900GS ( A September 2006 rig)

So will this mod, but before I start um will this mod be like Red Orchestra on a rts scale? and the normal map sizes like ttorpedo's Rural map? or something? this is the first time i've heard of Storm over Europe mod.
I loved SoH for showw2, i think was the best rival of btrh, i could not choose which one was better, even now i dont know which one is better, but if you anser the question that im gonna to make right now with the anser i want, this mod will be in 1st place for me,
I have read that Realism is your first priority, you really mean that the tank armour, speed, cannons, all the stuff will be realistic? You will get over balance? That would really really really be the best mod for me.
One more thing, will you guys put the consumes really high for some tanks? So we have really to use the tanks with caution do to the maps be big,
And about the ranges? will they be good? I really loved the ranges from soh in heroes, they were bigger then maps, but tanks couldn t penetrait anything and its hard to hit a tank that is on the other corner of the map :P
I know most of the anser you gaved in info, but i want really be sure:P

SOE it will be somthing like an officiall mod for Men of War ? Anyway intersting challange between BTRH2 and SOE...the most realistic mod will winn.
PS. Very high system requirements ! :cry:. BTRH works fine with half of this.
Wow, I for one think the new Tiger skin looks incredible!
I really hope that you re-skin all of the German vehicles with a realistic camouflage pattern!

Dito, our result off testing with similar numbers of stuff on a 2K map was also without any lag.

We make for all tanks their own realistic penetration values,armour values,camouflage pattern and ammunition values. The balance will done only with the price of the unit. And thx for your praise for SoE1...

Oh many thanks for you praise too... You are the first one that notice the camouflage of the Tiger, as new. And, yes we will reskin all of the german stuff and many of the allied/russian stuff. Stay tuned for more information in the next weeks.

Great, this mod is gonna rock, finnaly a mod that balances in prices, thats great, oh and sorry, I did notice the Tiger skin (Including the simbell) but I forget to say it, its awesome, I do like to see better textures principally for german tanks, I just hate that grey, and that camo isn t much cool too.
Oh and a bit stupid question...I have been saying for people do so, a Kingtiger Henchell turret and Panther protections on the wheels, (Normally Pz5 G have it) I know you still are not on those kind of things (small differences) but its just a suggestion.
And Kapula, yes you are not me, if you were, one of us would be a copy, and i would be unique :hurray:

Unfortunately, i can't join you, because of my obligations in EFAE.
But I have a couple of WW2 styled maps i can't use in any of my desert-related projects, which i believe i could give to you guys atleast for evaluation :). One is 95% done (around 2km x 2km, Omaha Beach), while the other is around 80% done (900x900, Harbor Town).

Is it just me or does the video seem to be corrupted? The image is completely messed up, it's impossible to make out anything.

It´s a H.264/AVC codec. Please make sure you have the right codec installed. Or try to see the vid with VLC Player. This player is completely free and and all needed codec inside. Here is a free download link for VLC player:

On my system the video was correctly played, also with Windows Media Player...
Kettenhund, try using a more standardized codec. The one you use is not available to everyone...

My Windows Player couldnt view the video (I´m running Vista) but my favorite player, VLC which I have been using for years, had no problems at all.
The video... Excellent! For once a video that actually shows you something and with clear view etc, most often these videos are either done in a very small format (200x200) or so which makes it hard to see anything.
The map... Looks great! Is it actually based on the real place, ie the mapper worked from a photo or is it a "guesstimated" work...? Anyway, it looks really really good! The only thing missing would be a Jagdpanzer IV or two, lurking somewhere in the woods! :twisted:

No, sorry it´s based loosely on a source. But i have also map´s on my list that will build from real photograph and topographic map, a little bit scaled down but off curse real.
And, yes Zeke you are right. A Jagdpanzer IV would be very nice do hunt down those crappy Sherman´s :yes:

great map !!!...but i think i must buy a new computer for this size. I have just 3200+ AMD , 7300GT, 2GB. BTRH maps works without any lagg, but the size of your map it is... unseen.

1 tiger, 2 kingtiger, 1 rockedlauncher and 30 troops are enough. :realbig: :lol:
mapsize and new ranges are perfect to play this maps at least 3vs3 (or more).

You can play with 10 Tiger´s, but you will face then a lot of JS2...
Our unit pricing is not ready but we will make a company warfare expierience. Our plans are: you will have enough money to buy 10 tanks or more and bunch of infantry at once. Trucks will have a key role in our mod to tow cannons and "taxi" the infantry to their positions. Like in reality...

From my experience, with "realistic" ranges load outs and speeds, you don't need to many tanks, carefully positioning and movement is the key. A well placed tank or AT will be able to take the momentum out of the 10 tank opposing force!
With increased ranges you can take enemy's from the far, but you will have to spot it firts.. and that pesky AT gun will be able to fire a lot more shots before you can close the distance and take it out. :twisted:

I just prefer when there is room to maneuver so you can enlure the opposing shock force to a trap and then take their flanck.

Believe me it´s such a nice picture and totally fun if a platoon of 10 x "Pz.IV Ausf." H open fire at T/34´s on large ranges. You will always forget to play and watch this awesome spectacle. Shell of shell will fly in a realistic curve to the T34 and blow up one by one. It´s cinematic...

hey there, great to hear SOE is back on the realism track. We are pleasantly suprised . and wouldn't mind mapping some , but how to do 2x2km map ? Sorry for lame question I rarely visit forums . It has to be done using FOW right? I have to load a big ass "factory" map ?
Oh another question, Is any detail "hardcoded" in the MOW engine, like:
you say present scale will be 1:4 . However, we'd want to go closer to 1:1 , is that limited by anything I cannot think of now? I can think of harcoded sight ... as well penetration values that can nail this coffin ?
In the F2_menu/land/polygons (with left_mouse_button you can add portions of map...and with right_mouse_button you can remove{delete] portions of map)

From my knowledge and experience theres no limits, beyond what your machine can handle. At list (1.5k x 1k) do not present any problem, and theres no hardcoded limits.
You can set your map dimension from the beginning, i think the default is 200 x 200, but you can enter any number there, then let the engine think it over and off you go.
As for the 1:1 gameplay I can only recall a minor problem from my tests- your soldiers will waste all their ammo in a blink, because they keep shooting independently off distance/ acurancy, if they see it they shoot it! Thats hardly a problem and im sure the rules of engagement cam also be modded as well.

Yes, it´s modifiable. We are currently tweaking the engagement ranges and the maximum shooting ranges. And it´s very funny but also violent if a "willy´s MB" with an .50 cal. HMG wipe out 30 infantry men on 800 meters. Our decision is not completely done from what ranges the AI will react and shooting by itself. This tweaking process cost a lot of time.

Maybe in game mt indication can also be tweaked (x4) so they show the real data. Although it would be confusing when in short distances a 20 mt grenade throw distance would become 80 mt!
How are you handling the small distances like in the above example or pistol/ smg / personal Ant-tank weapons?
Do you keep the 1:4 ratio or go for 1:3, 1:2 , 1:1 progression
Is it possible to join to this modding team? I can make models, UVMaps and texture. Well, honestly my texturing skill isn't the best but I have the basic knowladge. :oops:

no we dont make this mod for FOW. this mod works only with MoW.
we release our mod when final version from Men Of War is avaiable (september 2008) - we dont release the mod for beta2. pls have patience.

Harbor looks nice, but i think you should move those coastal guns away from the city and pointed towards the sea, and also in bunkers. Some classic PaK's should replace them in the cities :)

i think i change costal guns toward to city against normal Pak's or limit the ammunition from costal guns.
and yes, i will replace some Pak's, MG's or Flak's in the city.

Coastal guns doesnt look very realistic placed out in the open, or as in this case, with no roof over them. Remember that coastal guns were expensive to produce and thus, always installed in prepared gun installations, like concrete bunkers etc. To defend the city from land, I would recommend the use of PAK´s, FlAK88´s and 20mm FlAK 30´s (both single and 4-barreled versions). And of course, plenty of machinegun nests.
The city also look a bit too barren (empty). Add a lot more bushes, trees, barrels, cracks in the asphalt, flowers, etc to it. As it is now, it doesnt look like townspeople are actually living inside it and doing what townspeople usually do... and perhaps a company of Jpz 4´s should look nice in that large empty townsquare as well! :realbig:

Perhaps making the future maps a bit smaller then? Personally, I very much prefer to have a excellent nice maps with lots of features on it rather than having a kick-ass big map with much less features... but thats just me.

For me is the other way around!
I prefer big scale maps. Less stuff but bigger distances. Cover items become more important as they are harder to find environment becomes less franticly but more tactical.
If work/ stuff is concentrated on the key shocke points you might achieve the best of the two worlds
In the end it all comes down to the mod/ gameplay you are aiming to.

Now it look much more like a city full of live. The only thing that looks a bit off, is the bomb crater just outside the front of the church. A bomb/shell exploding that close to a building, should at least have made some structural damage on the church and/or tore up a bit of the sidewalk outside the church.
Either move the crater a bit away from the church and/or add some damage to the building and sidewalk. Other than this, the map looks great!

we are testing every map from our mod with diffenent computer specifications thoroughly.
(minimum: P4, 1GB Ram, 128MB Graphikcard with "normal" ingame grafik settings)
you can play all maps without any lags/bricks. our mod don't need higher computer specifications as the retrail from Men of War or Outfront2. :)
with P4, 1GB Ram, 128MB Graphikcard you can play with "normal" ingame grafik settings...
with C2D 6850, 2 GB Ram, 768MB 8800 GTX you can play with "maximum" ingame grafik settings...
Nice mp maps.

Well that is the difference, this is a map for A1/MoW... FoW is known for its shaky MP... I saw lag on 200x200 maps :I

we all know that the gameengine and netcode from FOW was terrible and verry laggy.
the actual version from Outfront2 (A1) works perfect with this mapsize and i think gameengine and netcode will be more better with Men Of War.
our map (brest) gets only laggy when 2 rockelauncher shoot at same time on same place. :confused:
i think Men Of War will have the same systemspecification diagram as Beta1 or Outfron2 where gamehoster can see good or bad systems. (you can kick players with bad systems :ninja: )

Update two for Storm over Europe 2 modification. We proudly present new informations about our mod.
We know the community is waiting so long for news about our modification. So here we go again for a next update. Today we want to inform you about a another big new map for SOE2. This map is totally new build from scratch and have the Brest thematic. In the year of 1944 in august the operation "Cobra" was started by the allied force to break-out from the Normandy bridgehead. This map will feature the battle of Brest with all the street fights from house to house, deadly bunkers and bloody artillery all over the map.

Outfront A1 is going smooth on my laptop even with most graphics on high, and its nearly 1 year old.
So I guess most desktops will be able to run SOE2 maps smooth. (Maybe not on high, but as you can enjoy it.)
The Gem2 Engine thats been used in Outfront A1 smoothes nearly everything.
In FoW, everytime someone drove into a building with a tank, MASSIVE LAG. Now on Outfront A1, bearly none! :)
So Outfront A1 is less laggy then FoW, therfore I guess MoW will be even less laggy! WHICH IS GREAT!!!
PS: Any room for a betatester? :insane:

all SP and MP vehicles are avaiable in our mod. eg. y can now buy Thor/Odin in MP. thats rock. :insane:

we hope, we can release our mod end of september. but we must change all setting in our mod again because MoW have completely other ranges and other penetration system as Outfront2.

Well, if you do the calculations, it should actually have around 90mm of frontal armor since those 50mm are sloped (in FoW). But if MoW's new ballistics system delivers, manually calculating armor thickness due to slope won't be necessary anymore.

Please please calm down a little bit, we wan´t have a flaming thread in here.
All sources (russian/german) stated out that t34 hull have 45mm armour with 30 degree.
That means if you see it horizontal, a AP round must go through 90mm steel to penetrate.
But this steel is compared to german rolled homogeneous steel (basic type of steel plate) a poor metal.
Armour calculation in MoW is near the edge of realistic, but a fundamental simulation left in the system!
This is the BALLISTIC CURVE of AP shells. If you scaled down the ranges of every cannon, you may also scale down the curves of every shells. For example: a AP shell of 75mm Kw.K.42 L / 70 fly´s on 2000 meters in realism in a ballistic curve. That means the 30 degree from t34´s armour plate is then square. The shell come from above and eliminate the benefit of sloped armour totally. This is why t34 was knocked out several times from 2500 meters and more.
Concluding this we see that we have realistic armour and penetration calculation but we a a totally arcade ballistic system. All shells fly almost with minimal or without any influences from ballistic and gravity. The fly almost horizontal over the map.
In our modification we will have larger ranges and also realistic ballistic curves for every cannon.

I'm not sure about the mod. 1940, but all of the 1941-1943 models have 45mm at 30° according to my sources. I think you confused the Panther's slope with the T-34's (the Panther has 80mm frontal armor with a 35° slope).

Are you going to keep the present (beta) speeds on your mod? I m referring to infantry, tanks, hand pushing weapons, they all move at lightning speeds (have you ever seen a scout crawling! looks like Michael Phelps on water).. but then take ages to trow a nade

Update three for Storm over Europe 2 modification. We proudly present new informations about our mod.
Our new map is set in the time period of August 1944 in the area of Mielec in south east Poland in the near of the border to the Ukraine. A plenty of fighting groups hit each other. German 23. PzD, 24.PzD
and 78. GD has contact with seven devisions of the 5. russian Garde-Armee.

Belive me, it will not lag on any of our maps...
The most problems of lag in game is:
1.) older rigs but the user turns the settings to high
2.) bad system conditions like:
-never make defragmentation off hdd
-or/and big,nasty,uncleared registration
3.) hdd space is to small
4.) Windows installation is broken/5 jears old/not patched/warez windows etc.
and not the game or the map...

all maps are for MP and most standard PC's should handle these maps with 8vs8. we had no problems to play all maps but our mod need bit more power than standard game. :yes:
i think C2D, 2GB Ram & 256MB GPU works perfect.

sry, cant give an exact date for release, but i think main part will be finished in 4-5 weeks. (i hope :yes: )
here is a small list what we have done or in work:
- new firing range (200-350 m ingame) - 95% finished
- new visual range - 95% finished
- new vehicles - 75% finished
- new big maps (at least 8 new maps) - 5 finished - 1 75% finished - 1 50% finished
- new firing animations - allways in work
- new sounds - allways in work
- new gamesettings eg. year 1941, 1942, 1943... 50% done
- much much other new things...

2) on actuall pc-systems the map works without lags. but, i think we must rework map new, after official patch is avaiable.

yes, we add some new skins for infantry. but our modteam dont create new skins. we add only new infantryskins from other mods - where we have permission. same with "new" originalskins or from other mods for tanks & cars.

Im a BIG fan of SHoWW2 and i played it with many mods for a long time back in the days.
I remember that SoE was one of two mods that i really loved.
The maps look absolutely astonishing! :booyah:
I love MP and i think its the right decision to focus on MP first and SP later. But will there be any SP mission in the future?
Will we be abel to choose the amount of points befor eatch battle, i think you could in the old one, if i remember correctly?

Question, do you suppose that even the older machines can handle 2km by 2km maps? I disagree with this. Even a wellmade 500x500 is enough to put an older rig to it's knees.

I get very low fps on "town". And Bocage. But larger maps like hunting run smooth. I think the buildings eat a lot of performance. So I have serious doubts that the brest map will run ok on a medium PC. My PC can run Crysis on very high with constant 22 fps. So it is not the oldest rig.

a standard pc (eg. 2.53 Ghz CPU + 256 MB GPU) should have no problems to handle our "big" maps.
i see only the problem, that MoW didnt support multi-core CPUs at time. :evil:
on our map "Brest" y'll get low fps only when 2 rockedlauncher shoot same time at same place.

One other thing I'd like to see is that during a long 1939-1945 game, you have longer timers on the units. Let's say the game is 60 minutes long. First 20 minutes = PZ III/IV's, next 20 = panthers/tigers, last 20 minutes = King/Jagd/Sturmtigers?
So each 20minute mark represents a period in the war :)
Same goes for russians too, with the Lend-Lease equipment being available later in the war and such. No M3A1's or bazookas in the beginning..
When you use this "Time-lock" on units you can have higher points for more intensive combat, like 1000 points in 60 minutes. This is controlled by CP points so it doesn't get unbalanced of course..
These are just ideas, I haven't given it much thought. It might get unbalanced, I hate 600point/40minutes games in vanilla MoW :/.

Update seven for Storm over Europe 2 modification. We proudly present new informations about our mod.
Today we want to share a few information and visuals with you. Here we present a new feature for "Battlezone" and "Capture the Flag".
Our modteam thought, that all playable multiplayer maps get boring after y played this map 100 times. So we had added "non-fix-programmed" flagpoints into our maps.
On gamestart the position from every flagpoint would be set new again. We think this feature makes maps more varied.
